I'm heading over to Rotto this weekend, and was wondering if you could recommend some good spots to go. I usually surf in Trigg and have surfed for about a year. No double head height bruisers over reef please. So any good beginner waves you can recommend, esp for the conditions forecast for this weekend - 24th July.
I surf a 6'8", have surfed for a year now, am reasonably confident, but no expert at the same time.
Hi deanes, welcome and this one I cant help you with but doggie and rune will for sure. Rune is still sleeping off his jet-lag from his trip over here and surfed out by the sound of things
There are no beginner waves. Transits is about it, right in front of Thomsons, and the conditions won't be suitable except on Sunday afternoon by the looks of it, and then the swell will be too small.
Its all reef except for transits which you could hardly call a wave....if your reasonably confident have a crack at Strickos or if the winds from the south and the swells big enough try stark bay.........
"stay in the white water at stricklands (in the morning on this weekend) during high tide only, Stick to the righthander side of the whitewash (kiddies korner)" and you will be fine. Plenty of crowd to scream to ... not that they will listen much...never do when im Paddling for one. It is over reef.
Nancy cove (seriously nancy!!) has a bit of beach and is safe to learn on but it will be small. Get a map find it that way.
Fairbridge Bluff is a reef and fine for learning. nice long right, may, have locals so share it...
Booties are great weapon on rottnest, to get your self out of trouble by running up the reef!!!.
I dont mind spilling the beans on these two little gems as they arnt exactly 6 ft strickos but seriously... If your gonna surf to live... you never leave your board at home.... Ever!!!!!
