How did people catch BIG waves before jet ski's were indented. Jetski's must have been transformational for the sport

They paddled. But in some places like the north of the northern hemisphere Jet Ski's have been great for both accessibility and keeping you out of the water - enabling them to spend more time out on the water. Plus the Irish have now been surfing long enough in numbers that they have a bunch of blokes with a whole lot of waterman skills capable of getting out there. For me I would rather stay on the beach than hit waves of that magnitude!!!

Tropical beech with shoulder high clean waves at 14 seconds period is much more enticing than that video, but it is incredible what they do.
