i was wondering if someone out there has or is living a very simple life, by that i mean getting out of a big mortgage and finding a place to live, rent by the beach and work a couple of times a week if you get work.My wife tells me i'm obsessed with surfing so being just on 50 it would be nice or my be i am dreaming to live a simple and enjoyable life, not that i don't enjoy life now but do you know where i'm coming from.asea

Never, I just know I could not live anywhere outside of a big city. It's where I was born and where I've spent almost every day of my working life for the past 40 years.

It would be differnet if I was bought up in the country, I could make the change or maybe even if I had tried 30 years back, but not now.

Mate if not for trying to give my wife and three kids the best I can give them I would be living five minutes inland from Byron.

My youngest is in year 12 and the others , one a lawyer at 20 and the other at uni.

I had an opportunity for the simple life two years ago and all my family and friends said Its not me they said I had too much to offer work wise and after going hard for years it would drive me nuts. They were all correct as I like too many toys to play with so in am in what I call round two which is the final round.

A mate can into my store yesterday, after working long and hard he is now working mon tue,wed off work thrus fri sat,sun off,not a bad balance. another mate works four 12 hour days and has four days off as a rolling roster not bad in my view.

Want and waiting for the simple life, please come soon

i try to look at it this way..

when i started work life, i was working for the money (which I still am). Now, I'm trying to focus on how my money can work for me, so i can spend less time working and more time playing (surfing / WS-ing) or hanging with the wifie / mates.

Diff people do it diff ways: Some invest in shares, some invest in properties and some simply come up with bright ideas..

just my two cents

Closest I get to a simple life is when the planets align and the surf is good mid week, my workload is not too heavy, I have the annual days up my sleeve, the missus doesnt mind and I get a mid week day of surf.

Simple once it comes together but requires a lot of not so simple things to make it happen. Have done it by myself on occasions, just cant miss a good swell

My idea of the perfect simple life revolves around a winnebago/my dog/my boards - oh yeah and the missus - and a large chunk of coastline between Hobart and the Goldy.

Well said. unfortunatley there is thing called money , but on a positive it is not the end all of life- I concider it only a means of doing things. WE all need money to live on ect but its how and what you do with your money is what counts. I refuse to get stressed about money .
Luck rarely comes into the equasion.

I have just completed a 10 year life plan and Im gratefull I planned it that way.
I worked my ass off for 70hours a week every week on night shift as a fitter and machinist for 3 years. In that time I was also educating myself about investing.

NOw my investments are starting to pay off. You need money to make money .
We all have options and choices , time to make some smart ones for the future....
