It happened like this.Got to the beach knowing it would be 1ft and with the tide coming in it could only get better. The water was crystal clear and smooth as glass so i had to get wet.I was out there by myself for 1hr and thoses little sliders were peeling perfectly over the bank, quite often lefts and rights and slowly increasing in size with the tide.A life guard mate came out on his '66 BENNETT AND DID HIS old school surfing, a pleasure to watch,if only i could be so smoothe like him but not to be.Anyway it was just one of those days that you probably couldn't be bothered going in but i'm glad i did as i had such fun for 2hrs in total and just the 2 of us getting unlimited little sliders.Beats sitting on the benches looking out at the surf.Any one else had one of those days??
After a recent storm, I went for a drive to check out the coast. It was quite sizey at many of the regular spots, but I noticed a little spot that 99% of surfers would not bother with... it was an inconsistent 1ft with 2ft sets every 10min. As you say, not quite worth it, but the water was clear and glassy, and the shape looked good.
Went out and for 90 min (until the tide stuffed it) I had a bag full of small peaky peelers to myself. Great fun.
Good on you asea yes I've had similar day's as you had today and arnt they a great surprise. I kick myself when it happens and cant stop thinking HOW GOOD is this.
I always say that the surf in the water is always better than in the carpark. Sometimes you surprise yourself by how much fun you can have on those seemingly ordinary days.
I'm heading over to the east in July and staying in Currumbin, hope to get a few of those, or better days.
Can everyone do me a favour and go to work between 9 July and 21 July. If not, give an old West Australian a break and allow him to get some waves.
I had a couple of days a while ago now where it was predicted to be howling NW and big swell. I thought I would go down and at least have a look. If it was blown out I would get some extra work done instead of the early.
Got there and it was 5kn NE and big! Had the break to myself and half a dozen others who eventually twigged on the wind did not arrive. When I left it was starting to get crowded but had the first hour or so pretty much solo with pitching head high takeoffs with a nice big fat section to try my luck on the inside.
