Just get one of each - no need to put yourself under so much pressure

Personally I agree with what SDR said in an interview a while back - I can not begin to even quote the great man word for word but effectively he said there was a reason those old boards were super seeded back then - there were issues with the design. So things developed and improvements were made as knowledge was gained. I reckon its best to take a modern day approach to some of the old shapes and designs. Get the best of both worlds.

Was a conversation he had with midget farrelly. Sdr asked midget what he thought about everyone /hipsters buying all these old school boards. M F basically said the boards did not work well then,so why would ya ride them now with all the great innovations we now have.... It was a bit more articulate than my memory version

Whilst I just love the romance of the old classic I'm really loving this fusion of taking the old school log and using modern shaping ideas to iron out the wrinkles and improve performance when surfing in that classic logging style.

What I do like it's shapers who have given great consideration to what they are doing, why, how to get the right performance abs balance and then creating their unique idea. I reckon Steve at Cw and Grant Miller are really spot on with this.

There's a really cool 4 part docco on YouTube of Tom Wegener going super old school with his shaping, back to the first Hawaiian ideas and designs. Really interesting stuff.

That being said, a modern single fin can just rip. Some things from past era's can be good.
