Mctavish are one of many great surfboard makers...but what you should really be asking is whats the best longboard type for my local waves.

Where are you & what kind of waves are you going to be surfing?

McTavish EvoII is probably about the best longboard board around, in terms of fun, easy, bashable... Performance...

Brewer Tufflite Surftech Nose Rider 9'6 - similar to the EvoII, but at 9'6 add more Nose Riding Time... More cruising...

True Nose Riders... The above 2 boards are not that! Doesn't sound like you want a nose rider though...

As a learner, a good 2nd hand Tufflite is good value... Very durable, and quite resellable, if you get sick of it!

Welcome to the shenanigans broo.... yeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuwwww!

I cant believe this one hasn't been hijacked yet and it WILL happen

My 5c, I've brought and surfed a bunch of great "pop" out boards but after recently acquiring my first 2 customs i'm wishing i'd done that right from the start. I think this especially is the case with LB's. I've seriously progressed more with my new custom log than I had in the last 5 YEARS, STOOOOOOOOOOOOKED...

So, talk to the local boyz in the lineup, the ones doing the stuff that you wanna do.
Talk the local shaper and research other great shapers like Bob Mctavish, Steve Del Rosso (Clearwater) Beau Young (Boards look Siiiick!) etc etc Maybe see who's boards featured in all finals of the recent Aussie Titles (sorry boyz, couldn't resist hahahah... aaaaaahhahahaha)

Either way dude, Haaaaaaave Feeeeeeern YEW!

I prefer to speak in terms of knee, waist, chest, head, head & a 1/2, double over head.....height. Before I start talking feet, then the increments of 3 or 4 feet don't matter. No ones gonna argue if you call a 20 foot face wave, 20 or 23 feet....& it just makes life easier.

I'm going to assume you mean waist to head height & the classic board (log shape?) isn't performing too well. Maybe coz it has little rocker & the waves your surfing aren't small/fat or just plain fat. So you need something with more rocker & a shorter board would probably help you turn easier too.

Take a look around the threads here at some of the boards the guys here have been getting lately. Short & wide...& some mid length boards (7 to 8.5 foot). These boards make paddling into waves easier due to their volume & also provide more stability. I'd suggest considering one of those, they're a lot of fun to ride
