Wet season is good. Gets bulk swell. 4 waves in the vicinity; lakey peak, lakey pipe, nungas and periscopes. IMO periscopes is the best but it's a half hour walk away. Lots of places to stay in front of the peak. Was last there in 2001 and stayed at amangati hotel. My ferry got cancelled and ended up getting stuck there. Almost lost my mind. Be careful of dodgy characters at both the airport and the ferry terminal. Other than that pull into a hollow one at the peak and have fun!

We got fu@&ed up my the transport marfia at Bima. Man just be carefull like the first poster said. Bring a few hundred dollars to pay people off....we had the attitude to "argue" and give them an Aussie "FY".... 5 turned into 15 very quickly.
The people at Lakeys were the exact opposite, beautiful people.

It is worth it, but don't buss it, just fly.

good food u can have spag without the bolog or sauce without the spag, can't get both together unless the throw an old lacky band in aswell, quick run down the beach will get you to periscopes and hopefully less crowds than the peak.

Just got back from Lakey and havent things changed in the 5 years I've been away! October used to be quiet but now you have 20-30 guys at the peak by 6am, when you get one theres people in the way trying to dodge the wave. Periscopes was a bit less crowded but its not as consistent and you need a high tide and a bigger swell to surf it. Nungas needs a decent size swell to work properly but when it does its a good wave and not as crowded. I've been there in December once and the waves were good, wind would come up by mid morning and then die off late arvo so you could get 2-3 surfs in but the wet season didnt fully kick in yet so we got lucky. When it rained it was onshore all day.
Theres lots of place to stay, Amangati being the best and most expensive $30-55 pn
Other places you can get down to about $5 to $10 pn with breaky, just ask your driver.
You can fly with Lion air or Marpati (book online) to Bima and then get a bemo to Lakey for 600,000rp If you dont want any problems at Bima airport call Aman Gati and they will pick you up.
Awesome food at the Lakey Beach Inn (last place on the Sth. end of the beach) a French guy runs it and the food is unreal, he makes sick marlin sashimi or if you want prawns, lobster or other fish he'll get it for you fresh.

Lakey in wet season is fine. The perfect surf-prison (well, 2nd to Tavarua and 3rd to G-Land), but hit it early no matter the tide. If the winds are wrong, try Periscopes on the rising. But there's plenty available, even if it's big (Nunga's and No Mans will hold, it's on you to decide).

Don't worry the hassles out of the water. If you're wise, you can spot a snake in the grass before they get a chance to spook you.

Plenty of places to stay, but Aman Gati is starting to get a little run down. Try it for a night while you suss the local 'homestays', something new for the area.
