🤔
I currently have the Sabfoil Balz old gen 999 899 799 and 370 399 430 stabs on 90 cm fuse.
I ride a Wizard 114 and the 899 with 370 stab 90% of the time, sail mostly banzai 4.7 and down to 4.0 .
I haven’t spent enough time on the 799 but when I rode it in steady wind I really like it.
Just often I ride on a choppy flat water spot with wind lower limit 13 knots somewhat gusty and I don’t like using more than a 5.0, so like the lift of the 899 for that. I do notice when the wind drops I can’t glide or pump for long before dropping off the foil.
I weigh 86kg and am an intermediate, gybes are solid and my aim is more carving freestyle and riding small windwaves.
My pumping skill has a lot to improve but I always try to rig small just being able to waterstart.
I like the mellow rode on the 899 but feel limited in speed and when doing s-turns downwind and carving upwind the foil develops huge amounts of lift (I can counteract that but just wonder if a more modern wing is also more neutral in pitch).
When on small windswell with the 899 I leave the mast in the same position as flat water (base 4cm off the tail) and it feels very lifty, porpoising all the time when going over windswell.
I thought the 799 would work better but have not tried it yet.
I have been waiting to modernize to some newer Balz pro 969 . but now I can get a good deal on a 909 and wonder if I should go for that one?
How will the 909 compare to the 899 and 799? Is it closer to either one of these?
(I figured the 969 would be more of a replacement for the 899 and the 909 for the 799). Actually I want to keep the 799 and replace the 899 with a faster foil with more glide. Is it worth investing in the 909 for that or should I wait for a 969?
thanks for advice!
