Hello. I am an 85kg intermediate windfoiler with pumping technique that needs improvement. I have been windsurfing since the 80's and learned to foil on SS HG i76 and i99 on a SS L150. Gybes are a work in progress. I can typically get flying at 9 mph (4 m/s, 7.8 knts) of board speed. I have no interest in going faster than 20-22 knots and rig smaller sails when conditions warrant. I am most comfortable at a board speed of 13 knts.I have upgraded to the Phantasm G900/PS400 lower paired with a carbon W103 but, I can't try it out until the spring. I foil on the SS L150v1 and SS wizard 114v3.
My understanding is that HA wings need more speed to get on foil, but due to their lower drag glide better through lulls. I selected the MA G900 hoping it would be a my medium to high wind foil of choice.

To decide on a 2nd front wing (if necessary), I can't seem to find any practical information, just repackaged product descriptions. The SS site has charts rating lift, glide, stall.. but I've struggled to compare and correlate across the HG wings I've used to the newer PFI and G series to decide on a 2nd front wing for light wind days.

Are the LA wings still a sensible new purchase? I am considering the PFI 835 (the new i84) for light wind days while it is available on sale now. Would the G1001 or 1007 be a better choice for light wind days? I may also try winging someday and the 835 would seem to be a good starting place.
The 80cm HG Wing to Phantasm Converter Fuse is not available anywhere or I would just wait and try my i99.

I have the ptm926 which looks close to the g900, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I found with back to back testing that even with less area than the i76 it gets flying earlier. I also had someone else ride my kit and he flew the ptm926 earlier than my 76. But I'm also actively pumping. It took me a while to figure out how to pump, and am always improving. Around 4kts boardspeed, give or take, I can pump and get flying. It was similar on the i76 but it took more wind power to fly on the infinity series.

If there's not enough to fly with that I wil go completely different foil style (iqfoil) so I don't know if a bigger front wing would be better for light wind with that setup or not.

I have read that the G-Series is based off the PTM926.

How much do you weigh?

Yes, the g900 is an evolution of the ptm926 (which was my daily driver 2 years ago) and feels very much the same.

Yes, the ptm926 (and g900) with decent technique will foil up in less wind that the i76 or pfi730

Yes, the g1000 feels significantly more powerful than the ptm926 or g900 and will get on foil in lighter wind.

An alternative option for you. SABFOIL WO945 as they fit on the Phantasm fuse. All you need are the SABFOIL washer kit ($10). There's a 2nd hand WO945 for sale on here in QLD (not mine) for $430.

I've used the Slingshot PTM wings and prefer the SABFOIL Onda's as they're more playful and user friendly with good glide. Another option to consider.

I have a PTM 926 & 899 and WO940. The 940 is a great foil but the 899 is better.

The G899 sounds like a great wing but at 925cm2 it's not going to be better in light wind than his high wind G900 at 1263cm2.

I double checked the options Hambone185 is considering - the G1001 and G1007. I didn't realise that the G1001 is a rebranded PTM1001 and the G900 is a rebranded PTM926.

I have the PTM926 and the PTM1001 so can compare. The PTM1001 is an excellent wing and I love it. Loads of glide and it carves hard when pushed. It's totally different from the PTM926, it took a little time to work out the technique for gibing it. Note its wing span and that glide in light wind translates to an unsettled ride in choppy or unsettled water conditions. So the G1001 is very different from the G900 in the way it rides as it offers a more technical ride and lots of glide, but maybe not any more wind range for those light wind days.

The best suggestion I can provide is, as others on here suggested to me, demo everything that you can (if you can)

Light winds on the bay here include prodigious crisscross boat wakes that both the i76 and i99 handled pretty well.
Demo is unfortunately not really an option in this area.
Maybe the PFI 835 will handle the chop better than the G1000 due to its HG i84 heritage.
