Wind foiling the Phantasm G800 foil, and we got a few wild west wind days just enough to test the G800 in some swell on the Banana River (intercoastal area, Florida).

I would like to try it next ocean side in shoulder high surf, however the traditional north winds did not give us a great season this winter.

Very happy how it performed as I wanted a foil that:
1. Carves hard
2. Not fighting a pitch battle on wave face
3. Glides off the wind.

The G800 checks all 3 boxes nicely!

Thanks for thr review and video. Got my eye on the G800 . Sounds like a good choice for slicing through all the multidirectional motor boat chop this summer

Have had half dozen sessions with the G 800 with sails3.7 to 5.0 no ocean sailing yet turns well and feels nice going hard downwind.

I agree, the G800 behaves very well.

It reminds me somewhat of the older HG Time Code 68 but that wing could roll on you sometimes, the G800 gives you the confidence to really push hard and the G800 glides much better.

@MilSurf, I will definitely mix it up some more, and will not wait so long in-between sessions, that way I will not be as sore the next day

@WsurfAustin, think you will really like this for those punchy wind days in your area, it will compliment your phantasm quiver very nicely.

The PTM 926 is different in many ways, I have used the 926 for about 2 years (for wind and wing foil) and have hundreds and hundreds of hours on it. Because its wider it will not turn as quickly and over 18 mph you cannot really push the speed as much as you have loaded it up by then and becomes bit of a handful.

at 90kg I will use the wings like this:
Wind 10-16mph PTM 926
Wind 15-30mph G-800

That's an interesting observation about the 926. I just bought one three weeks ago but I've only managed to get out a handful of times in mostly marginal winds. But with the Wizard 130 V4 and a Severne 5.2 sail, I was able to get a few foiling runs and according to my retrospective WaterSpeed data from my Apple watch, I was maxing out at 18 mph in 9-10 knots of wind (maybe with a few higher gusts). At one point I hit 22 mph but that may have been an aberration.

I weigh about 72 kg. I need to improve my pumping skills to get foiling sooner.....

Seems about right. Cruising speed seems to be 14-15kts/16-18mph or so. Think I've maxed out similar in both straps going deeper downwind somewhere in the 18kts or so range.

The 926 was my daily driver before I got the g800. I have hundreds of hours and 10s of thousands of jibes on that foil. If you are using the 872 fuse and 400 stabilizer the performance is greatly improved by shimming the stabilizer. Stock angle of attack for this setup is 3 degrees, reducing to 1.5-2.0 degrees definitely improves control in higher wind with no penalty in light conditions. It also allows you to move the mast are back and free it up on the roll axis for better carving at speed. Going to the 325 stabilizer is another option but gives less pitch stability. Both of these changes will require more skill from the user.

I have gone away form the ptm926, using the g800 if there are whitecaps and the ptm930 if it is light. Both them g800 and the ptm9256 have great handling over the full range of speeds. The ptm930 is significantly more efficient then the 926, but needs to keep the speed up as it handles like a pig at lower speeds.

It would need to be 25 knots before I would wind foil it and I'm not sure the wizard 130 is the correct board (too wide), your 114 or FS board would more than likely get the best out of it.

That rear stab is a smart idea . move it back or forward to adjust the angle rather than having to shim
