I have noticed that my Ezzy wave battern just above the boom has broken about an inch or two from the leach. I have never taken one out. I tried today but only got as far as taking the screw out of the end. Couldn't figure the rest out. Maybe I wasn't holding my tongue right? Does it need unstitching? Is it hard to replace? Should i get it done by a sail maker?

Dunno how to get them out as i've never owned ezzy's but that close to the leach glass it, plastic or stainless sleeve it, saves you getting a whole new batten.

On the piece of plastic the screw goes into, about a cm further into the batten sleeve there should be some little hooks on it with some chord looped around it. You have to unloop this chord from the hooks. Its easiest to push the piece of plastic about 1/2 a cm further in so it gets the tension of the chord and then you can use tweezers/ nail file or anything like that to unhook the chord.

Cool thanks Dave. I saw that but Didnt know if thats what I should do? Is that cord part of the sail? Is it stitched in there? I tried to unloop the cord from the hooks with the allan key that came with the sail for tightning and loosening the batterns but it seemed to be cutting the cord and I stopped as I figure this was stitched in part of the sail

Yep the chord is stitched into the sail, so its super important not to break this. You should be able to get a bit of slack on the chord by pushing the plastic part inwards once the screw is out, but it still can be a trough job. i havent broken a batten in my ezzy but it looks like the same system as the five or so others sails ive taken battens out of.
