I'm trying to piece together a range of sails that will fit my current (favorite) Chinook wave boom and Ezzy 4.30 RDM mast. Basically I'm on my P plates and my bigger mast (4.60 RDM Ezzy) feels like a telegraph pole when using my biggerst sail- a 6.6 O2 Loft. Love the sail, but hate to huge top heavy feel of the big mast and big boom needed to rig it.

My idea is to find the biggest sail that I can rig on the Chinook boom (which opens to 198 cm) and the 4.30 RDM Ezzy mast (with 30 cm extension), and preferrably in a freeride / race style. Plan for it is flatwater blasting and crusing in light wind on my JP 101 lt FSW board. I just want to get a "big" sail (6 meters plus) that feels light to handle on the smaller mast. Is there such a beast?

Ps- Poverty due to sailing too much and not working enough hours, so thinking late model second hand. So what would be the biggest sail for that boom and mast?

a 6.7 hellcat (NP) will rig on a 4.30 with 22/23 extension and get you blasting on flat water !!!

It's light and fast to plane.

Phil, I've got the 2010 6.2 Tempo which is the tamer version of the Hellcat.
I find anywher between 18-22knts and it heaps of fun.
I'm 90kgs and i don't like (unfit) to pump my sails but in that wind bracket it gets me planing nice and quick.

yes indeed they do have grunt, I (92 kg) use mine (6.7) from 15 knts and up, with your weight the 6.2 would be just fine !!!

easy to rig (add a tad more downhaul than the specs) and so powerful !!!

Hey mate, keep in mind that pryde sails rarely work on other than a pryde mast. You may end up paying for more than another sail.

I hope your boom is carbon, because at full extension, you may find that the smaller sail will feel worse than your 6.6. Just food for thought.

Karl, sailing tomorrow but down at Port. I'll be home for the (predicted) big blow on Friday though. I'll pm you my mob number, give me a yell if you're coming down. Should be fun, few sailors up here on holidays and a good low tide around midday. Can only sail till 2 pm then dreded work...

I'll try riggong the 6.6 on the 4.30, but I'm sure it reads 4.69 for mast. My extension and 4.30 combined ain't that long... Plus it's still too wide for my Chinook boom.
