Hi,

We will be over in Perth at the end of December for 5 days before we head up the coast. Can anyone reccommend any accomodation near the city river sailing spot.

I think that is a no!

Nedlands is not very cheap.

I searched the web and found this - ~~http://www.perthweb.net.au/accommodation/motels.shtml~~ .. all depends on your budget .. & where you wanna sail...? Not sure if the Raffles is open for guests, but heaps of spots in Como - then you're in between the two main river sailing spots in Perth of Pelican Point & Applecross..

Depends where you're from

If its the UK, particulalry London, then anywhere in Perth is cheap.

Riding the bike home on Friday - was reminded that there are a couple of backpakers in Northbridge on/near Aberdeeen Street (near Russell Square).

10 minutes to the river, 40 minutes to Safety Bay/South Freo?, 15-20 mins to Scarborough. Just hope that there is wind!

The obvious proviso is be careful with your gear in a car - this is the "nightclub" area of Perth. Will be plenty of inebriated pp around then.

Probably looking for something that's midrange in price say around $100/night. As you say I don't want to be two much in the traffic zone with over 10k worth of gear in car. Having it nicked would be a bummer for a windsurfing holoday and tragic timing given most of it has been upgraded recently.

Have found a beachfront ad in WA trading post ("The Quokka") for 100 per night at Palm Beach Rockingham (30min south of Perth, 2 to 5 min from Safety Bay) which may be the go for ya?! It is a little removed from the metro madding crowds and a really nice sail - bring weed fin due sea-grass!!
You can call them on 0412 608 784 or 08 9592 7560, another (non-beachfront) $100pn 08 9529 3600 0408 545 559. Reading on... Shoalwater "cottage" (= closer still!) $50pn (Crikey!!!) 08 9330 1917, mob 0410 416 213.
If you need, I could probably scan & e-mail maps if you get a street address...
