Used to sail at Burrendong (near Wellington) but since moving to Bathurst have sailed at Wallerawang once and haven't bothered with Ben Chifley Dam (Bathurst) even though it's 10 minutes up the road. The trouble around here is the hills create small funnels of wind and it is also really gusty, like most inland sailing. The wind can go from 0 to 30knots and back to 0, so hard work. One of these days I'll do it, but tend to just sail when I go to the coast.

I scored Ben Chifley dam near Bathurst in a north-wester once when on a trip out that way. From that direction, the wind went straight down the lake and it was quite nice sailing.

However, I was on a One Design longboard, which is very different to a shortboard in inland conditions.

I've sailed Lasers at the 'Wang and it was very gusty - apparently it normally is because the mountains are not far away. Again, it'd be okay on the right longboard, but very dodgy on a shortboard.
