.... better still go to your local nightclub next Saturday night at about 2 in the morning and call the big bloke at the door a fat, useless no-neck plick - you should get a result then !!

evlPanda's Muay Thai update!!!

Had my first spar the other week. HOLY ****ING **** BATMAN!! Now I've only been doing this, part-time, for 10 months. And I'm hardly a hard man, I'm an I.T. consultant. I sit under a fluro light all day and ...er program when I'm not on here. (I'm compiling).

Anyway, so being that I was the only guy that turned up for the session they decided to move fight club forward an hour. "You want to do some sparring?" "Er... Ok. About time I did."

I'm not sure, but I think I was the only one that hasn't been in an organised fight. At least one guy has a belt of some sort, others have spent a long time in Thailand. So there's little me putting on ill-fitting pads and ...well it's interesting, that's for sure. Nothing like going outside your comfort zone once-in-a-while

I got kicked in the head, fn hard, and had my feet swept from under me at least three times. I hurt the next day. I reckon the guy with the belt could take on at least five of me. I say at least because he's so out of my league I can't even evaluate properly. It's like me competing against one of the PWA guys.

I recommend it, not only to get (very) fit, and tougher, but you'll improve your coordination, your fighting skills of course, but most of all you'll have an appreciation for just how much better professionals are. It's the same in any field.

There is a very real primal fear, at a cellular level, that happens when you enter a ring against a guy that just moves like a champion. Before any punches or kicks get thrown. You know you don't stand a chance in hell, and there's nowhere you can run. Very good for some humility.

P.S. My shins are constantly sore to the touch, but a nice sore.
