I lived in Canberra fr 7 years and can say nothing is more inspiring than lake burley griffen, lots of super green algae or even lake george as long as you don't put a hole in your board on one of the fence posts but it's been bone dry for the last 10 years. And the Canberra winter is only about 10 months of the year.

Gerro is going off . WE have a big desert behind us that sucks.
Most locals look forward to the off season (4 months) to rest. Do other things, like get to know their (non sailing) family again, some gardening????
This winter has been pretty good, discovered a few spots that work on the Kona winds. All fickle but l'd rather flap about trying that than go to some gym. Hit it about one to three times a week.
Climate, fantastic. Grew up and surfed in Vicco and at the age of 18 my knees where acheing from the cold. It's not good for you, ice cream head aches are a thing of the past.Put the heater on for 4 weeks a year and only beacause l am sitting in boardies and a t shirt
The seabreeze rescues you in summer to a pleasant 32c , so it rarely gets too hot. If it does hit the 40, 45 , 48 , no worries. A day off from sailing so you hit the pool, catch up on some work.
Wave qualiy, well everyday it's windy the last hour goes cross off no matter where you are. Hit the point, huge waves, Coro fun waves, and another bunch of spots that all do it on their day. Local knowledge which increases with age.
To windsurf you need wind, to live you need a family , to survive you need a job. Gerro is going off. l'm not going anywhere.

ha ha it was a case of 3rd time lucky...and had the place to my self bar a couple of bags.

agree with the hardmeister...M.R. looks the biz, but it's a pain in the ass to score...so far i've had 5 failed trips out of 5. given up, wind down sth too dodgy. (bit like manjooora!!)

Gerro doesn't have waves? Eh? ! does not compute, all my fav seshs have been at corros/sunset. I've been pestering the missus every day to move there....she's not having a bar of it though...only 4hrs if u floor it ...well worth the trip...

I don't know hardie.

best in oz that's a big call. i think tempurature is the deciding factor for you.

Best in OZ is marrawah i reckon, for pure windsurfing. windy all year, sailing 4+ days a week,
waves all year. a variety of breaks so you can find somwhere to wave sail in just about every wind direction. in summer it's quite nice.
not crowded.

No winds in MR have you been checking the observations this year. it's been pretty windy. yeah it's onshore for main break but that's why you gots to go to different breaks in winter.

i reckon lancelin is better yeah cuase of the wave height, and the women are better lookin in that area too.

I'll be honest i didn't spend all that much time in gero only a 2 months, everyone was telling how good it was, and really i thought it was kind of ****. sure it was windy but i went to WA for wavesailing, and in gero it was all kind of small and not really down the line. AND i kept getting shown up but some little kid named jaeger or something,

I remember when i first saw him sail i was crusing out and he was sailing just upwind and ahead of me, i saw him hit a wave and go into a massive backie so i thought "aw yeah i can do that too" and went to do my backie i hit the ramp a bit to late and smashed through the lip making for the most spastic back loop ever. ah the memories..

Having said all that I do think gero is a great spot for jumping.

What's best anyway Curey baby? It's a matter of opinion! Sailing in Marrawah in the cold and those massive waves, would be no go for me, not young enough, not fit enough, not cold resistant enough and just plain not good enough If ya luv Marrawah then I could understand why Gero is not quite your cup of tea, but for me Gero is Early Grey All the Way with LBJ!!!!!!!!! ps i hate the cold

for wave sailing, WA perth, you got lancelin around an hour/half out and than for the long weekends, or if you dont have a job as you like, you can go for a 5 or 6 hour drive, load up your van, go to margs, and esprence, and than all along the coast you get a lot of big breaks, that you could experiment on. than within and hour from the city, its basically every spot in perth, including all the flat water siling, (river, luckey back, etcetc)you have crazy waves to get some skill I(im working on mine there) and you have laiten, and woodies point and also port beach in winter, and thier great for smaller waves chest hight sometimes you can get the head high and over head high waves come through, but thier rare. and than you have mandurah, wich alot of people like, but i have never sailed up there, besides at saftey bay, so i dont know any names, and there all good fun and only an hour or 2 away. than you head up north the places like gnaraloo for some epic and huge waves, wich are mad, but if you love your wave sailing they ar great. i am told that you can get a set where you can go inside your barral with your intire rig, but i havent ever seen this. but when i was there watching as i watched all the surfers getting murderd by the waves, it was huge but not big enouph for you to get inside the barral.

If Port Douglas, Nth Qld had surf, that would be the best place to live.
Nothing short of a catastrophic sub-sea earthmovement can rectify the present situation.

For windsurfing = GERO

For consistency of wind, for access to and quantity of sailing locations It would be impossible to beat Gero, I doubt anywhere in the world could match it, (that's uninformed opinion)lots of waves to sail - maybe not world class but lots all the same, it's rare for there to be no waves at all, very rare.

For everything other than windsurfing = anywhere but GERO

The whole GPS speedchallenge thing started off with the Connewarre crew trying to wrest a case of COOPERS from the Boggie boys. But Boags has got the best advertising campaign.

That is the biggest misconception about WA. Yes Swan Draught and Emu Bitter are among the worst mass produced beers in Aus... I will try REAL hard not to focus on the negative, but I will throw in XXXX, Tooheys New, VB, Fosters etc etc as being equally bad!!! I think Tassies Boags and Cascade are the goods, but I am a slightly biased Taswegian... Then there is Coopers, James Squire and Matilda Bay... mmmmm...

The good beer in WA... Micro breweries!!! WA has some of the best micro-breweries in Aus. Little Creatures, Sail and Anchor, Billabong (where I brew my beer) OK, maybe Billabong is an up and comer...

The WORST thing about WA beer, PRICE... Beer is WAY too expensive in WA.

Hardie, yes it started with a nautical mile challenge just between Boggy lake and lake Connewarre although there have been a number of interstate Cremaster challenges prior to this. The next challenge was opened up to others on the basis that the hour was to be sailed in similar conditions to those on Boggy and Connewarre (approx 1 nautical mile legs). It seems to have skyrocketed from there, but I wasn't watching seabreeze at the time of registrations so we don't have a Connewarre crew entered.
