Hi guys,

First post here. I've been offered a free Bombora Capricorn, but it's missing the mast step and fin. Is it possible to still get these parts? Is the Capricorn a suitable board for beginners - I weigh 85Kg?

Hi,

you will have no problems with the fin. Its probably an A box fin.

I am not sure with the mast step. I sort of remember the Capricorns. I think they came after boards like the Antartica and Big Toy and were around when the Xits were being made. So it probably uses a finbox mastrack. If it does you will have no trouble getting a suitable mastbase.

Is it a suitable beginners board. For the price its pretty good. What are its dimensions as in length and maximum width? For a beginner generally the wider the board the better. Length doesn't hurt either.

Haha, I just did a google search on it. You got it off Craigslist!

Hi ABG,
I was actually involved in the design of the Capricorn when I worked at Bombora.
The board came with a sliding 3 position mast track. Is it this section you are after or is the actual mast foot?
It also came standard with a 'very' flexible cut out plastic fin of the US box base variety. I bought one of these boards for my girlfiend (now wife) and still use it to teach my kids on to this day. Depending on where you are I'm sure you'll be able to pick up spares for it. If you're in Sydney, give the boys at Windsurfnsnow a call and I'm sure you'll get the parts you need. I use a glass fin in the board I have and think I've got the original plastic one somewhere if you're interested. Unfortunately I don't have a spare mast track.
Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. Your help is appreciated. For the price I don't reckon I can go too far wrong. If the board's too small for me, it'll be fine for my kids. I'll give the guys at Windsurfnsnow a buzz as I'm in Sydney. Where are they located Rex?
