Whats the most reliable type of mast clamp? Are they interchangable? If you buy one brand boom & have trouble can you buy a different brand mast clamp & fit it to the 1st brand?
In my 30 years of windsurfing I have seen a few boom clamps from the ridiculous the sublime.
This one is the best I have used so far:
Same front end is used on quite a few brands: KA sails Australia, Sunshine, Aeron, Hyrodynamix just to mention a few.
I guess it is not perfect but it is: easy to use and adjust, fits any size diameter mast perfectly from ultra RDM to thickish SDM, Clamps up tight enough with almost not flex, Has effective pivot function to take pressure off mast and seems perfectly reliable in the 5 or so years I have used them.
Most I have used on alloy booms but they are fitted to Carbon booms as well depending on the brand.
Also as my old boom was 40mm diameter if I wanted to adjust the harness lines I had to come into the shore & wrestle with them.. now I can adjust the postions out on the water! Re modern clamps.. they are certainly secure 
I'm a bit slow learning have nipped my hand twice so far when closing them up..
Wont be bitten 3 x !
.I think I posted somewher what i thought..I cant remember where..? ( old age..
)Stiff & secure as ( but watch the clamp it bites ..) , easy to move my harness lines around when sailing + I can now outhaul my cambered sails which makes rigging heaps better..
