We are looking for two boards to do a coast run from Newcastle down the coast as far as we can get in a few weeks during this summer. Then get the wifes to pick us up where ever we get to.

Any advice on a good quick board for the job???? mmmm one that floats.

Will have to be big if you plan on carrying food and water.

Last season I picked up a formula 186 in perfect nic for $100. That type of board would be good for it, could fit a tent, porta-loo, suitcase and life raft on it. and when you arrive, just adds some legs and you have a dinner table for 20
seriously tho, they're stable, big and fast in all sorts of winds, would be something I'd consider first.

i think that maybe a raceboard would be better. although not as wide it will be better balanced with gear on it. (in front of mast)

plus in sub-planing conditions they are more forgiving. also they have a wider wind range than the formula stuff. so if a huge squall come through it won't be as bad.

i'm not sayingthat formula wouldn't work, just that raceboard may be a bit more versatile.

I'm past worrying about vast anounds of food etc..........good plastic card and pubs can look after most of the food and liquid issues........first shark I see I'd probable **** a weeks worth so I recon the porta loo might not be needed.

So what are you taking Grasshopper.
A tent? hydration pack? band aids?

I would think an old mistral OD or Superlight may be the go. I remember reading about a couple that went touring through the Philipines on boards like those back in 96 I think. Dont know any of the details though.
