Considering a job offer, working summer in Tassie and winter in WA, based out of Cockatoo Island. The job is on nearby Irvine Island, but living out of Cockatoo and choppering across every day. Has anyone spent time there, and if so what's it like? The fishing looks good

Thanks Mr Mineral, yeah wasn't considering taking sailing gear, more interested in what the living conditions are like, ie/ food, internet access, bar, all the important stuff.

Gday Easty,
Your bro may have some dirt on the area if he ended up loading ore there or Koolan. I went to Koolan Island once and it was a great little community atmosphere, some sports and social activities. There was a croc trap on the foreshore near the wharf which serves a fair warning. Plenty of fishing, hard to get them up before something bigger takes the lot tho.
Cockatoo I believe is a bit bigger but don't know about internet etc.
Climate.....fantastic, esp if its only for the winter
Cheers Phil

Yep, talked to big Bro last night, he was loading up there in the late 80's, reckoned it was really nice. Spent today trout fishing with the bloke that offered me the job - climate sounds great, fishing awesome, food excellent, beer cheap, a couple of pools, they feed the sharks on sundays, etc etc. I have to make a decision by wednesday arvo, decisions decisions!

Well Cockatoo Island sounds great - perfect winter climate, great fishing, great food, $2.00 beers, swimming pools, they feed the sharks every sunday, but I'm not taking the job. Decision came down to time spent at home - doing extensions next few (or more) months and really should be there as much as possible. The opportunity might come up again anyway.
