The latest seabreeze competition seems to have attracted some people that have note entered in the proper spirit of competition.

After checking some of the profiles of the entrants I have noticed that a lot of the profiles have only just been set up since the competitions started. The entrants have never posted a photo or commented on any post. Seems though the accounts were solely set up for the purpose of sending in multiple entries into the competition and/or pushing up the rankings their own entries.

I hope Laurie is validating these profiles because this is not particulary fair on the people that are following the spirit of competition.

Laurie you want to comment on this? Or do you want us to name and shame?

Maybe Laurie needs some kind of entry criteria

- Such as, to win a top 3 prize you must have been an active contributor for a minimum of 6 months, or have made a certain number of forum posts over a 6 month period, etc

No doubt we want the prizes to go to legit seabreeze people, not "professional competition trolls"

Yeah !!! hurumph hurrumph ! Is it possible "Mr Seabreeze" gets more advertising dollars for more members and therefore benifits from the competitions that way ???.......Laurie ? If such is the case, no worries, just dont expect many "real members" to enter the comps.

Yeah, I agree, but they must have at least 744 posts... hang on... 745

I think it would be good if Laurie just made sure that whoever won the prize had to prove who they were before they received their prize. That way they won't be entering twice.

There must be a lot of people though that read these forums, but don't post. Should they be excluded?

Perhaps jumping too an early conclusion,
Alot of people visit seabreeze, just to check out the weather conditions, i used seabreeze for proberbly 2 years, before bothering with forums or an account, i just checked the swell for surfing. I bet there are hundreds of people that do the same.

So the average non-forum poster, checks the weather on seabreeze twice a week, then he notices this advert next to the weather almost saying, "Giving Away Goodies, No Strings Attatched"
Then the non-forum poster says, "Hey why not make an account, and enter this comp" and then he goes back to just checking the weather. He/She doesnt need to be in the community to win, just to be a seabreeze visiter.

Perhaps Jermaldan, the compitition wasnt just to give you a new board/kite/sail but to help expand seabreeze, to grow the community, these newly registered peeps are one step closer to talking on the forums, or using seabreeze classifieds.

Those with +6500 posts and +7 years as active members should be the only ones legit enough to win.

No no no PR, you've got it wrong, it needs to be anyone who has had 6500 identities and has only managed to make 7 legit posts...

The downside is, I guess it wouldn't be much of a competition...

Love to see how the voting works. Who decides who wins? Is it the most popular one or do the moderators decide?

I dont know about that.

I think that anyone can enter but voting should be discarded as people are setting up multiple profiles to vote for their own entries multiple times, or enter multiple entries to spread their chances.

Its easy enough to set up an account so having 10 or 20 may be a pain, but with the potential of winning 2K worth of prises is worth the hassle.

Best way to validate members would be via SMS. Member activation codes would be texted and then validated online. Its a lot harder to gain access to 10 to 20 mobile numbers than it is to gain access to 10 - 20 email addresses.

Interesting.

I'm pretty sure the T&C covers things, in particular point 17.

Competition Terms & Conditions:

1. Information on how to enter and the prizes form part of these conditions of entry.
2. Entry is open to residents of Australia only.
3. Seabreeze.com.au employees, sponsors, affiliates, and immediate family are not eligible to enter.
4. Shipping is included in all prizes, and delivery to be negotiated directly with prize supplier.
5. Entrants must be registered members of seabreeze.com.au.
6. Winner will be announced with 7 days of closing and posted on this website.
7. Judges decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
8. Prizes are not transferable for money, favours, garden ornaments or anything else, except by the sponsor who reserves the right to substitute a prize with another prize of equal or greater value if the prize is not available for any reason as determined by the sponsor.
9. The winner is responsible for any fun, happiness, taxes and fees associated with the receipt or use of a prize.
10. This item has nothing in it, but probably deserves something important.
11. Entries must be in before the published closing date.
12. Seabreeze.com.au and/or it's agents shall not be liable for any loss or damage in any way, shape or form whatsoever.
13. Seabreeze.com.au reserves the right to cancel, suspend, and/or modify the competition, or any part of it, if any fraud, technical failures, stupidity, oversights, or any factor beyond our control impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the competition.
14. Seabreeze.com.au will disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the system, or acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner.
15. In the event of any dispute regards this competition, any claims, judgements and awards will be limited to the fee paid to enter this free competition.
16. Entrants waive all rights to claim indirect, punitive, incidental, consequential, physical and mental damages associated with entering this competition, or the use of any prize won in this competition. For example, if you fall off your chair and hit your head on a sharp object whilst laughing at an entry, you need to deal with that. If your boss sacks you for spending too much time browsing this site, again, it's your responsibility, and something you'll have to work out in your own time and at your own expense. Sorry.
17. Seabreeze.com.au, like the Tax Department, reserves the right to update these rules to account for smarty-pants people who try and work the system to their own advantage.
18. People of all ages enjoy these comps, so please keep it clean.

On a positive note, how good are some of the entries?

I get a laugh every time I look, and hope you're enjoying it too.

So you are paying attention;)

Well as long as you are on top of things we can all rest easy. Think about validating members via SMS, you will definitly sort out a lot of bogus accounts that way.
