Paid $35 each (yes I know $35 too much) for a couple of old tyronseas just over a year ago to teach my kids on, they preferred them to the wider shorter boards said they go faster. They have been doing ok considering we don't get out much.
They have been using an ezzy kids rig and a Gaastra 3.4 maverick. The 3 of us were out sailing around a few weeks ago, boys on tyronseas and me on jp sup with a 4.2 ka wave sail, they blew me away upwind.
Old boards are ok for teaching kids, but beware if a big person (aka dad) takes them out in stronger winds, bigger sail and chop.
They break. in half.

yep urethane and the brown stuff is sand not water damage.
there was a very loud cracking sound about 300 m off the beach, had to sort of body drag back in

Hey remember , the lightbulb moment of the first two piece mast came when someone broke one and chucked it into the car .

Hard to believe when we were growing up in Adelaide in the 80's that was the board we all wanted to have as well as a Tiga. RIP another piece of history

I still have another one, plus a recently acquired f2 comet slalom (the one with a centre board) and mistral Malibu for the kids.

Maybe replace the Tyronsea with a Hifly Race.

Your fin would be useful in that board.

I found this photo in an old club newsletter from almost 20 years ago. Some fellow at the birth of the wide board era chopped off the back of an F2 Lightning for a home-made wide board. The centerboard was the fin.

As he said in the first post, his kids preferred the longboard to the short wide boards because the longboards went faster.

It's just simple physics that while short and wide is great once planing, they are slower until they get over the hump and that's not easy with little rigs.

I don suppose you still have the mast track? I've been after one.
