We are coming over to WA next week for a few weeks sailing - Perth, Lancelin & Cervantes. Will I need any form of wetsuit, or is the water / air temp warm enough for just boardies. We plan to do long sessions on the water 4-5 hours.

Most of us windsurf in G-Strings all summer

I'll pass that sugesstion on to my partner, she looks a lot better in a g string, I'll stick to the boardies.

Depends where you come from, what you're aclimatised to.
Our friends from Cairns certainly would be using wetsuits, but if you're from Tasmania, certainly don't bother.

We are coming over from Sydney, where boardies and rash suit is very comfortable at the moment.

The water is warm but the breeze can get a bit chilly if it really blows.

I've worn only boardies and rashie for the last few weeks, but the weather here is so strange lately anything could happen, but you shouldn't need anything more that a long sleeve radiator/roaster, for the occasional cool day.

Des, I'm from Syd too - I met you I think at Winda Woppa recently. I'm writing this from Perth where I can assure you everything they say about g strings is correct. You feel silly wearing anything else the water's so toasty. But don't bother with a brasilian - apparently they're not the thing here.

So the most important question, has the wind kicked in?? I've been looking at the Seabreeze and the it's starting to look promising, the nice green arrows kickin in around mid day.

Matcham, what sort of the gear where you using, I usualy remember people by thier gear if not by name. R u over in WA for a holiday.

Hi Des, yeah I arrived Tues for around a month, but this is where I started life so I'm pretty familiar with the setup. My board's a 95l JP Xcite Ride - very sweet in the small waves here so far. Looks like no wind today and tomorrow but later in the week should be good. Nice to see some green on the forecasts, aint it?

Hi Matcham, I'm thinking of buying the JP XCR 95. What's the ride like in really harsh chop?. How much do you weigh and what's the smallest sail you can comfortably use. I remember that I was impressed that you had it out in the 30knt+ day a Jimmy's beach. I'm looking for a mid size blasting and B&J board with occasinal use in light wind wave. Also from what I saw it looked like a pretty fast. BTW did you have any hassles with the gear on the plane, which airline (assuming you flew)

Hi Des,

The board really is sweet. That's the best word for it. I bought it over the FSW because its upper wind range is reputed to be better. That day at Jimmy's beach was a good test. No worries there - I had heaps of confidence while others were sitting it out waiting for the wind to quieten down. I was on a 4.5 that day - I weigh 94kg. Overall the board is super manouverable but not actually that fast. I tried the 105l version that weekend too and in my opinion the 95l feels like a board from a different range. It's perfect for me. I've gotta bigger board for straight line blasting.

Virgin seems to be the go for gear. I've never paid excess with them as apparently they have a policy on going easy with surfers. But you need a good book - the flight is dead boring.

You'll love it here - once this heat wave passes over.
