if you value your life... then not a good option...

it is full...fulll...fullll of things in the water that will follow you until you fall in and then feed.

Hey Backloop,

You talking about a shark shield
ocean-guardian.com/ ? They have a unit that sits on your leg or wherever, with a trailing cord that gives out a high voltage pulse.

The jury is still out on whether or not they help divers, I've seen convincing cases both for and against their use.

They would be completely useless for windsurfers or kiters though. You'd be more likely to cop an electric shock across the chest and have a heart attack than for it to save you from a shark.

At double island point the wind is measured from the light house which is about 120 feet above sea level. That's why wind is usually higher. (Same goes for Moreton Island). Windsurfing would be good inside Double Island Point (western side) in a NE. There is a large bay & water is not too deep. A good swell comes around the point. If you don't have 4WD you could rig up at Rainbow beach. Sharks no worse than any where else on coast.

Yeah I used to find it was reasonable to subtract 5-10 knots for sea level from anything reported about DI when I lived nearby. Some of the dunes had good funnelling effects though depending on wind direction and your location.

i have been wantting to check it out for ages but can't find anyone who wants to try it out..
As for sharks. man there are sharks everywhere it is the ocean and they do live there. so if you gonna worry about them all the time then go sail in a lake.
sharks are naturally friendly anyhow.

LETS ****IN DO IT..

backloop,
rainbow beach is superfun in a true southeaster.sucks in a southerly.
double island point on the western side in a northerly is good stuff,
and rainbow beach is good too.
the ocean beach is exposed, wild and sweepy on most wind directions.
shark paranoia is rampant on this forum.

ignore it, go windsurfing.

regards ian.

I've had some superb sessions at Rainbow Beach both north and south of the surf life saving club when I lived in the area 15+ years ago. Conditions can vary greatly depending on what the sand banks are doing. I've never sailed Double Island Point but have kiting friends that reckon the northern side is great on a NE. I don't think you can sail there on a SE as the point is high and throws a big wind shadow, unless you have a kite with 100m lines .

From memory the south side of the point gets very rough in a SE and if you come off, the sweep would probably take you straight into the rocks.

Rainbow Beach is no windier than anywhere else in the area, it is just the position of the wind meter at the light house on top of the cape that leads to the high wind readings.

Hey curac,
It is a bit scary to be close to sharks out there and i alwats try to stay on the board when i see them but i never had any problems with them. i think there are just bad pictures in the heads of the people. of corse you remember those images you see at tv and in the papers and think about all sort of situations. thousands of people go swimming every day so i dont care to much...
go next week to fiji, but when i come back i would be happy to go there with some company.
