Gday everyone, Neal from Esperance here

After a 10 year break and 2 days of blowing 25-30 here over the weekend I've decided to dust off the sails and drag out the board and get back into it..I think my body is already hurting in anticipation

Sailing was pretty much a no go up in north QLD, so I took up handgun shooting(hence my forum name)

Now I'm back in Esperance I cant resist it anymore!!!!

After learning on a windrush(the one with the handle on the end) and progressing to a storm 10, through various Tiga 280, 260, Bombora X-it and ending up with a Zot it appears that sailing has changed quite a bit in the last 10 yrs!!!!!

Windsurfing used to be huge down here 20 yrs ago, and we ran a few big races and events for the WA wave sailing curcuit, though most of the crew have gotten older, had kids, moved away etc etc. It was nothign to see 10-15 sailors out on the water on a windy summers weekend

Now I just have to wait for the weekend, dig up a mast from somewhere, replace all the ropes and go punish my body!!

Thanks mineral
I never really got into the waves , mainly just flat water high speed stuff in the bay and jumps off the chop. At least the old zot was always good for that. Dug the old killwell mast today now to check out the old Simmer 5.5 and find my harness

Ha ha a Bombora Zot?? I think I had one of those back in the 90s. Are there many local sailors down in Esperance?

ha ha! yeah a zot! I've had it since the 90's too! I wasn't going to admit it lol but is still in good nik and it used to go like the clappers is indestructible loves to get air...only problem is that there is a lot more of me than there was back then!
There's definately not as many any sailors as there used to be most sailors are out in the waves now
Heading up to Perth this weekend so might check out some of the shops and might even head to Hopetoun next March if I'm not away shooting

I was in Esperance over 09/10 New Year chatting to some of the guys who windsurf in the bay from the yacht club (I got on the water that day but hardly got planing as the South-Easterly died in the arse!). Maybe consider hooking up with them?

Yeah I had a Zot too. It was a fairly big board for me back about 17 years ago. Nowdays... I weigh about 10 kgs more and it would definately not be a big board. I kept it till recently but stopped using it around 1996 when I bought a Bombora 270. That was a good board.

HaHa yeah that's Dieter!
He used to own the surf shop years ago and also made sails under the name Drastix Designs. His shed is like a museum for sailing! He's currently nursing a sore knee after a session in the waves last week. We've often spoken about gettin all of the old crew back on the water
