How does the rural thing work ?
Just curious. Yes, that would be serving time indeed.

I think everyone would have to agree, WA is the place to go. Where depends on how much you have to spend, how much you want to travel, and how far from the city you want to be.

The other states may have 'some' wind, but from what I have seen, nothing like WA, and for you, just the right time for the good wind. Don't leave it too late, and get there as soon as you finish your job.

Seabreezes are usually becoming less common in February as cyclones and low pressure systems up north intoduce a lot of persistent troughing (Like we're seeing now in fact).
Best wind is in the south west, south of Bunbury - Margaret River, south coast, Esperance. I haven't sailed those places in February but that's where I'd be looking.
Esperance is really beautiful and less of a challenge than Margaret River.

^^^Agree. SW WA is the place to go. Nice and warm at that time of year with a great breeze to boot.
Just watch out for "the man in the grey skin suit'

Live on the south coast of WA and last Feb was the windiest month I've seen in the 11 years I've been down here! Check out the Feb 2011 observations for Esperance, they had a cracker of a month:
http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/201102/html/IDCJDW6040.201102.shtml

Note: 15 knots = 27.8 km/h, stats are for average wind speed and not peak gusts

Also, Esperance temps in Feb were no higher than 27.2 deg which is much cooler than west coast 'sauna' at that time of year!

Once hot easterly weather pattern takes hold on west coast in late summer with light to moderate seabreezes, south coast gets fresh-strong seabreezes as prevailing wind direction in Feb is from east.

Suggest you head over this way, though check out 7 day forecasts and be prepared to travel a lot to find wind (and waves?). Also depends on whether you're into waves, bump n' jump or freeride which will determine potential sailing locations. If you're only using one board then would suggest an 85L freestyle wave with the sails you have.

If you don't want to go as far as WA the limestone coast area of SA just over the border with Vic has very reliable 18 to 25 seabreezes in Feb.
Robe, Beachport through to Nene valley and Port Mac all have great conditions from reef breaks to bump and jump or speed on lake george at Beachport.
Not many sailors to keep you company though lucky to count on one hand the local guys around here still getting out.

hey guys!!!
Thanks again for the responces !!! i guess i am heading to wa then.
all the info and pointers have really helped me, after 10 hours of prooning trees with a chain saw , my head is pretty fried!!
so my pommie skin! i asure you that i am blacker than most tarmac.
so the final plan for me is sell my van in Melborne/ Sydney then hop on a plane to perth , then by a van 4x4 and hit it up for a month, fish when its not windy and windsurf when it is.

cheers

Take the drive across the Nullabor, it will only take you 3 days or less from Vic to corros. It's an experience, you'll only need a 4x4 if you head right up north or want to go to spot X at corros.
There are a few good spots on the way that you can sail as well, you really should experience the Australian wild side......ohhh if you break down and plan to leave you van, just set fire to it to save the locals having to do it for you.
