Has anyone successfully flown on Jetstar flights with windsurfing gear? They say they wont take anything over 2m, but other airlines with A320 say they can fit some stuff on thats a bit longer. Not sure if thats the case with Jetstar, and dont want to risk rolling up to the airport tomorrow and being told to bugger off...

Surfboards will not be accepted for carriage unless they are placed in an appropriate surfboard bag. Surfboard fins must be removed, where possible, and placed in an enclosed compartment in the bag, or taped to the board.
I will be very surprised if J* accept long boards at all. This has been an issue on the domestic front as well. The A320's also have a large bulk hold however it is not allowed to be used as it is considered by occupational health and safety as unsuitable for use by the contract baggage handlers because they only use the siscor lift and containers and don't normally use a conveyor belt to access that hold. Maybe with Qantas baggage services handling the 330 turnarounds things will be different. Surprise me!!!"
I asked the same question last year when coming back from maui as its A330 to melb which takes 3m boards, and A320 to melb to perth. I checked all the bags in fine and they were onboard the A320 when I got off.
Weight restrictions etc. were no problem. I may have had to pay 50 bucks or something for excess baggage. I can't quite remember. Either way I was really impressed with jetstar for the price.
Slowboat. I have a new Carbonart44 that I as yet I haven't been able to get going. Have much more success on my Sonic85. You are welcome to borrow the board if you can't get past the 2m container restriction with Jetstar ( I understand that it is a real restriction), I can send it up with big Tony. I am trying to get to SP myself and would be happy to borrow the board back for a few runs with some pointers on how to sail it during the day. Frant

Thanks for the advice grumps. We plan to get there early. Plan B is to book a Virgin flight that leaves about the same time and take the long stuff on that... I reckon we'll be OK though.
Frant, thanks for the offer, but Daffy has been babysitting my SP44 since October (I was expecting there to be some wind before the end of the year but it never happened) so I'm sorted even if I cant take any boards with me. No probs helping to set you up with it. Sounds like you havent had enough wind to get it going...
I think Slowie might be livin in a dreamworld if he thinks that he can carry his windsurfing gear on an aeroplane anyway. I just packed my Landcruiser for the trip to Sandy Point. Its chockers and I am travelling alone!! I suppose you do pack in everything including the kitchen sink when you drive.
