Here's an account of the purchase and voyages of the Nora Dane, my grandfather's boat.

I post it here for the Salties. It has lots of nautical jargon. My uncle, a master mariner, penned the tale.

Although I usually take Loto's comments with a grain of salt this one confirms what others may already think of kiter surfing - that the is no respect or thought given to actual nautical or mariner skills. It's all about what's cool at the moment. Kind of like boogie boards and roller blades of days past. A sport for the masses with little thought for rules or etiquette or the history of pioneers who without, would never see the "sport" they enjoy ever been conceived.
And before someone comments on "poleys been prehistoric blah blah blah", just remember, more coverage was given to Nat Fyfe finishing somewhere in the L2L field on a twin tip than the race record being broken again, on a foil, by a big international rider.

That is a massive Read and have loved what I've gotten through so far. Will finish the rest later.
Not for everyone but worth the time for those who have it.

Thanks. I've been enjoying it slowly myself. For the Port Macquarie sailors, you might know the author. When we were down that way a few years back we were surprised by how many locals knew Ranger Hope.

My thoughts are, that I doubt a foil would work on a displacement hull. Even in a lot of wind, a foil on such a hull probably still would not work as the hull would be limited in its maximum speed, as distinct from a flat dinghy like planing hull or shape.I think some people often time display ignorance of naval architecture principles and a lack of understanding of hydrodynamics. These things are not rocket science, so not sure, unless I have missed it, why there is such a problem in basic understanding of marine scientific principles. If only we all knew why.
