You might want to have a look at the following post:

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24504&SearchTerms=forward,loop,challenge

It got me going for them, once i realised it didn't hurt (that much) i was going for lots (didn't land any though). I just need to stop doing speed sailing!

Good luck.

Hey Dave,

Best advice i can give you for your first few attempts (to make sure to make the rotation) is to hit the ramp slightly off the wind and standing up over the board a little .AS SOON AS YOU HIT the ramp then sheet in really hard, pull your feet in tight and look back over your shoulder to spot the landing.

Go for a steep sharp ramp so you will get enough pop without having to worry about actually boosting.

Also, i did my my first few hooked in, as it means you are nice and close to the sail and wont have it whipped out of your hands when you get whipped around.

Most important point (well actually two) is never bail halfway - this is when it hurts!

And lastly - committ into it - it is easier than a carve gybe once you have them dialed.

Cheers - hope you are smashing them out in no time!

Really appreciate it buddy. I'm using a 2006 JP Freewave 91lt so hopefully this will do the job. Dave

Yup as Willaus0001 said, dont bail half way round, it will hurt.....bad. Even if your feet come out the straps (happened to me 1st few times) keep holding onto the boom. At worse you should end up in a water start position ready to sail away.

Another trick which helped me was closing your eyes once you are in the air about to sheet in. Sounds crazy i know but it means you dont see yourself being catapulted (in a controlled way)towards the water, makes you less inclined to bail.

Also move your back hand down the boom so you really sheet in hard, and least but not least look over the back shoulder, this gets your head in the right direction for when you land.

Once you crack it you will wonder why it took you so long to do them, they are piss easy once you get past the fear factor.

FIRST ENEMY - Indifference
The first enemy that you've got to destroy before it destroys you is indifference. What a tragic disease this is. "Ho-hum, let it slide. I'll just drift along." Here's one problem with drifting: you can't drift your way to the top of the mountain looping.

SECOND ENEMY - Indecision
The second enemy we face is indecision. Indecision is the thief of opportunity and enterprise. It will steal your chances for a better future loop. Take a sword to this enemy.

THIRD ENEMY - Doubt
The third enemy inside is doubt. Sure, there's room for healthy skepticism. You can't believe everything. But you also can't let doubt take over. Many people doubt the past, doubt the future, doubt each other, doubt the government, doubt the possibilities and doubt the opportunities. Worst of all, they doubt themselves. I'm telling you, doubt will destroy your life and your chances of success looping. It will empty both your bank account and your heart. Doubt is an enemy. Go after it. Get rid of it.

FOURTH ENEMY - Worry
The fourth enemy within is worry. We've all got to worry some. Just don't let it conquer you. Instead, let it alarm you. Worry can be useful. If you step off the curb lip in New York City Gnarloo and a taxi exposed reef is coming, you've got to worry. But you can't let worry loose like a mad dog that drives you into a small corner. Here's what you've got to do with your worries: drive them into a small corner. Whatever is out to get you, you've got to get it. Whatever is pushing on you, you've got to push back.
(push loops)

FIFTH ENEMY - Timidness
The fifth interior enemy is over-caution. It is the timid approach to life looping. Timidness is not a virtue (unlike humility--they are different); in fact, it can be an illness. If you let it go, it'll conquer you. Timid people don't get promoted loops. They don't advance and grow and become powerful in the marketplace on the water. You've got to avoid over-caution.

Do battle with the enemy. Do battle with your fears. Build your courage to fight what's holding you back, what's keeping you from your goals and dreams. Be courageous in your life and in your pursuit of the things tricks you want (to do) and the person sailor you want to become.

start off slow, head down wind sheet in and catapault yourself onto your back. next carve down wind off a bit of chop with the same action sheeting in hard and keep the board on your feet landing on your back. as you you feel confident with the rotation aim for bigger ramps
The DVD 7 sons of freestyle Remko does a section on forward loops pretty helpful

Got it from here Nebs.

Forwards are doing my head in. Every time I go out I find an excuse not to do one. Too windy, not enough wind. My shoulder hurts. Wrong tack. New board, new sail.....
The list is endless.......

RE: Learn to loop

I see the EVO is the preferred board for looping....

the evo helped me on the push loops
could push loop first season of riding one, where I struggled before
I think a shorter, lighter board helps

Now....

I'm visualising 20kn's ssse with 2m swells every afternoon, for 5 days a week, throughout summer.

I hope this doesnt mean my visualisation will send me permanently to the desert and divorce, so I'm visualising local.

My wife learned to forward loop this way last season. It worked really well for her and took the fear out of it.
