There is info on this in the NSW section of forums already, but I wanted to reach as many sailors as possible, so you know, racing at Jimmy's Beach coming up in a week's time. It is a part of four events over summer.
Most my sailing I feel like a free bird flying on open sky.
Racing was something entirely different my first time. Being in a big flock of crazy birds making dirty air and choppy water, screaming like banshees as it all turns to carnage heading at the mark.
If you've never done it, slalom is something totally different. HIGH adrenaline. And it's just nice chatting all things windsurfing with sailors all weekend.
Lining up to make a start takes skill and effort. First time I struggled to make any race starts so I went off and free sailed in the flat until I felt confident at the course, then came back and made one. Next day made more.
Jimmy's in a nor easter can take the hard work out of it. Last time the course was marvellously set by the boat crew as it allowed for standing out on the shallow spit in full wind ready to rock, just chatting, watching for the flags at the boat, then GO! Pretty flat water. Foils stayed off in the deep waiting right next to where fin sailors were standing.
