Gday, thought I would get more responses in this forum than the wave sailing forum.

I'm keen on getting into the waves, live in Brisbane but frequently go down to the Gold Coast. I weigh 65kg, have an 85L Naish Hybrid Wave. Have 4.5, 5.7 and 6.2 sized sails. Just wondering what spots I should be considering in certain wind strength and directions, perhaps marked on a map. As well as any tips, not a part of the surf culture so some help with terminology maybe needed.

I frequently sail at Shorncliffe which is quite rough with some big swells out in the bay but I've never been able to ride a wave back to shore which seems like a lot of fun

Hey mate, narrow neck is a pretty lonely place these days. Not many crew going there anymore and the shore break can get pretty nasty at times.
Come down to Currumbin alley. It is a very forgiving place to sail if you pick your days and the locals (e.g. me) are ok

Look at the wind observations for coolangatta and just make sure it is a true southeasterly direction before driving down. Southerly is no good (too gusty for beginners).

Importantly, Stay well downwind /away from the surfers and swimmers and everyone is happy.

Regarding gear, Most guys are on 90-105 Litre dedicated wave boards. Can be a little gusty on the inside at times and a little more float makes things easier. I use a 95 liter Quatro quad with a 5 meter sail regardless of whether it is 8knots or 25knots.
85 Litres could be ok if you only weigh 65kg.

Na, just told the truth on the main spot on the goldie that the widsurfers like to hang for wave riding.Was an actual true post that was ment to help.Thought it might give him an idea where to go.
You wouldnt know the area Markie living in red neck land but was the spot to be in the old days for waves.
