Hi all,
I'm new to the QLD area (from NSW) and want to find out were is good to sail in a SSE wind near Brisbane (within 1.5 hours drive). Flat water or waves is fine, just want to get out on the water on my day off (Saterday).
Can anyone help me out?

I was new to Brissy a while back too and used to travel to gold coast or caloundra (nice but sooo far) but now I go to Manly (OK in SE but not so good in S) its a great spot in my opinion, is close, has grass rigging area, some flat water + bumpy stuff too, not really tide affected, good launch site ohh and lots of mud at low tide. Best way is to try them all and see what you prefer.

Manly is pretty good. I used to go there all of the time when I was learning, but now I always go to wellington point. Wello usually picks up more wind and the swell is always bigger

Wellington point has grass rigging as well. You can also try Victoria point, but that only works from a south to a south east. Victoria point is ok, but it still has less swell than wello.

Dead south, Vicky point.
SSE Manly
SE Wello

Thats where I reckon they work best with the swell direction and surrounding land.

And then there is redcliffe...

Ann St at caloundra is good if you want waves.

A place called Beachmere near bribie island - armpit of a town - no one ever there - goes off in a south-southeaster.

It is set up to give you ramp after ramp on the way out and backside swell riding if its windy - its been know to get to 4-5ft on windy SE's.

I went to Manly today, it was pretty good. I wouldn't mind slightly bigger swell though .

I went to wello first and no one was out. It looked pretty rough, so I thought I'll stick to manly. I'll be going to wello tomorrow for sure.

Damn rain stings when it hits your face at 30 or so knots .
