Just out of interest:
What length harness lines do you use?
How tall are you?
and for what do you use them?

reason for asking:
I have been playing with my short and long lines and I can't deside which ones are better? I am 6"2 so am starting to lean towards the shorties.

180cm tall
seat harness = 28" lines on race sails.
waist harness = 26" lines on wave sails.
Long arms

Once youve had long you'll never go back.

Just changed to 28 " with seat harness and seems heaps better for speed. Would use shorter with waist harness. The 'Faster' DVD has quite a bit on this with boom heights as well.

Is that the length of the line itself or the distance of the loop from the boom?

That might sound pedantic, but I tend to use longer lines, party because I have them a bit wider apart on the boom than some, especially with large sails.

Mine are probably about 30-32 inches and I use a seat harness for everything. 177cm tall.

Hey Andrew,
the distance is the total length of the lines.
If someone says they are usiing 26" lines you still dont know how far apart they are.
I reckon this could make them the proper 26" if you have each tab right next to each other (my preference) or 22" or even less if they are wide apart.
That Guy Cribb/Intuition bloke has a great way of finding the correct sweet spot for your lines. We tried it and it is spot on.
Cheers.

Hey,

I'm about 183cm.
Mainly free-ride looking to freestyle a bit.
At the moment I use 26cm Dakine lines, positioned < hand width.
Waist harness.

I spend a season on 22cm lines but then switched back to the longer lines. I believe the longer lines help with earlier planning.

so true, agree 100% but i learnd on short lines, 22's and than whent to 24's and didnt like them, i wanna try some 18's but cant find them anywhere, not even 20's so im stuck with 22'2, but still, i think you get better power tranfure being closer to the sail, and the center of gravity being closer

I use 18" on my slalom boom. Nice and close, lean right out and dont have to use much arm strength. Formula boom I use longer as I set the boom to forehead height instead of shoulder high. If you are unsure, get some adjustable then you can try until you find the most comfy length for yourself.

I use 18"
they feel really short at first and when anyone gets on my kit they cant use whinge!
but i am trying to learn one handed backs and fowards and yeah seems to feel better close to the rig!

then again if you use bigger sails you definatly need longer lines... the biggest sail i ever use is a 5.7...

184 cm tall, long legs, used 22" when was using seat harness. Changed to waist harness, using same lines, no problems. Mainly blasting around on 80L / 90L boards. I may have bad technique, but found the change from seat to waist not too bad.
