No noone can tell you

Hey MPL,

Do you have soft, always been shoed, lily white sensitive feet? Or do you have calloused, outdoor, cross bitumen barefoot without a worry feet?

I've sailed wello both sides without booties, yes it is a bit sharp underfoot but I didn't cut my feet open if that's what you're asking.

Redcliffe is sandy, no problems, Manly no problems either.

The normal argument is that booties don't let you feel what the board is doing, and stops you doing some tricks that require finesse, however watch Haircut for half an hour and try to justify that argument...

(they're still unnatural though!)

No Boots needed at any of these locations....Wello is funny, it has a fine volcan/coral type rock that "scratches" your feet but rarely cuts them. Oysters and Urchins are the main nasties and i havent come accross either.I have heard of the odd sting ray and stone fish around, they are rare but you need to decide. I love the feel of the board without boots......similar to the condom thing.......

The coral might "scratch" your feet, but the glass that the bevans at night throw onto the rocks and coral will cut your feet. Something sliced right through my boot and my foot at Wello a couple of weeks ago. I grew up there and i highly recommend boots.

Wello on SE = Yes if you are the Western side of the channel markers, no if you are on the eastern side of the channel markers. Otherwise tough it out. It's Wello
Wello on NE = Yes if on the Nly side of the sand bar (shallow area MUST be high tide), no if on the manly side of the sand bar.
Reddy on = Nope - just jellies at times so dont fall off
Manly = Unsure

It comes down 2 it with Wello, wear it or tough it out.
I used 2 wear it, now I have a new board and better with the pads without them, so I tough it out

Booties aren't they for girls
I can not stand the things besides I never cut my feet.
Wello can be bad though on the eastern side if you don't watch
where you hop off lots of reef out there.
Its particularly worse at low tide, hight tide its generally not a prob on both sides.

what do you need fkin booties for. your sailing around standing on your board arn't you? not standing around in the water?

as uncle chop chop would say "maybe you should try a bootie of harden the fk up."

i don't reckon you will need booties at redcliffe.

manly. well carrying $3000 worth f gear down a rock wall stopped me from sailing there.

but all you guys cutting your feet, try not hammering into shore and jumping off your board at 30 knots.

or maybe sail somewhere you don't have to worry about pollution.

the train, victoria point, golden beach, mooloolaba, kirra, redcliffe etc.

don't wear them lame ass booties,
i don't wanna sell em.
unless you clumsy wello and redcliffe doodies cut your tinkly toes.

Ive got some size 12 Alpine Star motocross boots, chest protector and a few other items if needed.. oh including a helmet...

one time to go windsurfing i had to walk across a lava field, and then when i got to the other side i had to cross a road where a truck carrying a few tone of razor blades hard crashed and spilled them everywhere so i had to walk over them and i didn't need no fkin booties.

Well, i didn't think this topic would generate so much discussion - but thank you all for contributing its very informative and humourous. For the record (Nebian) i have soft, always shoed, lily white feet - get spoilt on North Coast so I guess i will stick to Golden Beach/Mooloolaba for the time being. (Sonic) I agree - just cant beat the feel of the board on barefeet and (Haircut) my pet hate would be when grit catches around the toes - i spend all my time concentrating on the grit rather than were i am going. (Gestalt) - I've never tried Victoria Point , were is the best place to launch from - the barge ramp, the boat ramp or somewhere in between ?? Which wind direction is best ?? (Sonic) do you have corroboree type feet or soft type feet - I know that question sounds a bit sus - but i need to establish a reference point based on what you wrote?? (MaxCarbon) - i don't sail in winter - even in queensland - so the question of temperature is not a factor - rather comfort is what i am really about, and therefore for similar reasons (Big Al) wearing boardies around my wetsuit won't be a problem becuase i dont own a wet suit.
