Just gotta love North Kirra at this time of year. Got up at 5.30 this morning and could have gone sailing. Sand being swept thigh high along the beach and I had an early meeting in Brisbane. It was odd to note that the rest of SE QLD was virtually calm once I left home. Love this time of year.

Hey Northboy,

You talking about North Kirra in WA or the one near Coolangatta?

The one near coolie went off today, at least half a dozen windsurfers out, 15 knots, everyone having a good time. Eggs, Gestalt, Curac and Junior Freestyle (and possibly some others that I missed) made the pilgrimmage down from up north, lots of jumping and smiles on faces.

It died off by about 3pm, but until that point conditions were lovely. Got to love this place, boardies in August

i had a good time that's for sure.

will definately be going back to kirra. finishing up in the surf club at the end for a beer was a great way to end the day.

p.s backloop was there as well.

Well i waited 2hrs today for the wind then spot on 3.00pm it picked up to 15-20 but only for a hour i decided to take the 6.0 out but should have gone bigger. shocking tide too.

If the wind blows SW tom who's up for a sail at Wello.
tides good in the morning.

yeah the wind is totally unpredicatable at the moment.

kirra will work for slalom as well. it was pretty flat along the beach in the channel. my first time there today. it is a great spot.

will take the windwanderers there in the not to distant future.

hey northboy, was a good day but no doubt there will be more. on the way down i was thinking there was no wind. until i got to kirra. it sure was windier than the rest of the goldie.

i got out i the water at about 10:30 and it was pretty good then.. up around 20knots i think. it was better in the morning the wind was stronger and the the chop (swell) was bigger so better jumps. also a better angle.

I twice saw something bigger than a human jump 3feet out of the water out the back at Kirra the other day .Sailed right over the splash mark and made sure to jibe a looong way away .No dolphins that I could see.It must have been a bloody huge mullet.Actually on that topic ,at first I thought it was a kitesurfer but couldn't see the kite.

Yea, friday at kirra was awesome. Stayed there over night but not the right winddirection the next day. so went up to narrowneck on 20 knots SE and have had a gr8 time until i broke my mast pretty far out there. I am glad to be back on shore even if i broke my mast lost my mastextension teared my sail and twisted my boom. Was about 45 minutes of paddeling and 20 minutes walking back up the beach.
Was the only windsurfer out there together with about 30 kiters.

Yeah rustle,
I also saw something jump out of the water at Kirra on Friday. Wasn't sure what it was but thought it may have been a ray- makes you concentrate on your water starts out the back

could have been cobia (black kingfish) jumping, boys!
i caught one just 100 yards behind the break at moreton last week. we spotted them from a distance jumping and causing a disturbance.
look like "bloody big mullet"
but as fish and chips, yum, yum!

Yeah you're probably right .It could have been two cobia carrying a cut out dorsal fin between them to scare off the punters.
