Hi Guys,

Interested in everyones thoughts on how good the JP FSW boards are for actual freestyle?

Might sound like a bit of a strange question but i am picking up a 2010 102l pro edition of this board this weekend coming and i love a bit of blasting and bump n jump but i really want to learn how to vulcan first and then hopefuly move onto the spock but will this board limit me in any way or will learning just be a bit harder than on a dedicated freestyle board?

Also the stock fin that comes with this board is 29cm which seems fairly big so would anyone have any suggestions on a smaller fin size that would make learning the vulcan a bit easier?

This will be perfect for learning to Vulcan and progressing to spock! Won't hold you back at all! If you're serious about Freestyling then you should get about a 24cm Freestyle fin (could go smaller but not for learning). The dedicated freestyle board will pop onto the plane slightly earlier and will rotate through the slides slightly better but you won't notice the difference until you get into more advanced freestyle moves. Plus the FSW will give an advantage in the carving moves like Shakas and Shove-its. Great board - good choice - good luck with the Freestyle!

As FletchHuz said... the 102 FSW will work for trying to get into doing some Freestyle moves.

RE the fin I would recommend you get two high performance fins:

1) for Freeriding

2) for Freestyle

I always found that you can get a bit more performance out of the JP boards using a good after market fin.

A lot of spinning freestyle moves are more about getting the technique right rather than having a 100% freestyle board.

Hi Stehsegler and FletcHuz,

Thanks for the advice guys, I've literally just got back from the shop with my brand spanking shiny new board!! Really happy with choosing the JP, the build quality of the board seems excellent and i opted for the pro edition so the fin thats with it seems pretty good too!

Thank you both for the advice on the fin sizes, i was having a look at a couple in the shop today and they had a 24cm tabou freestyle fin, will these work OK with the JP do you think or should i opt for something like an MFC fin?

Not sure about the tabou... but I have had some good experience with MFC fins.

Can't go wrong with a MFC fin - their profile for the freestyle fin is very similar to the JP though so could just go with a JP Freestyle 24.

Tabou freestyle boards are very different to JP so probably wouldn't be ideal to use their fin in the JP - but I'm sure it would still work - make sure it's G10 construction though - Both the MFC and JP are G10 but not sure about Tabou.
