Just had to use that as a topic

However in all seriousness I suspect that after this season a few Perth councils will be taking a hard look at kiting.

Who is liable for any injury/damage caused by a kiter ?

Saw this on saturday at Melville

Kiter powers into shore, 5 metres from the sand, thats about 20 metres from the road, does a boost, gets landing wrong.
Kite drops out of sky towards grass and people. With the lines just above the heads of the crowd, the power comes back into the kite, snap go the lines, crikey go the people diving for cover as they are almost de-capitated.
Luckily the people were other kiters.
However as soon as 1 ordinary member of the public is injured by a Kite the Insurance companies will pressure the local govt and bingo no more kiting.

Think I'm crazy ?

That is what happened in the 80's to windsurfing around Sydney.

All was cool until someone was hurt (I think that a couple of swimmers were actually killed ) and then Windsurfing was banned.
They used to even confiscate your equipment !!

As Windsurfing lost it's high profile the enforcement of the bans also went.

Just the ponderings of an old man

I think as windsurfers we need to be careful that we don't get wrapped up in the bans as well. We need to make people well aware of the differences between our sports but also support the kite community in educating people how to safety participate in our sports.

I have seen windsurfers do thing just as stupid and dangerous. It will only take one accident and we will all be looking for new places to sail.

A little common sense and tolerance will make everyone's life a little easier and enjoyable.
