The 2008 Lancelin Ocean Classic produced one of the best finishes ever - Peter and Patrick fighting it out to the end. We followed the two leader's in from South Passage taking one photo roughly every second and now I've finally put together something that everyone can see.
Sorry about the Youtube quality but will put up a link to hi-res version later.

Damn close.

Was that a bit of argey bargey at the end or did they just fall over?

"...being won by Peter Volwater from his friend Patrik Deilthem..."

Wonder if they are still friends...

Talk about being at the right place at the right time, good one Col.
Looks like the deserving guy won it, great finish. Must have been great for the spectators with your chopper adding a touch more class to the event.
Won't be long until there's redbull banners everywhere.
Your've done a top job of raising the profile of the race, thanks for shareing.

Tremendous shots thanks for posting this.

They look like big boards. Anyone remember what the conditions were like?

also anyone know why Patrik bore away at the end and gave up his lead of several board lengths?

Evets; I guess I'll reply as getting pipped on the line is a touchy subject for some here (slowie!).
Condition's were 12-22 - Big boards as well, with lancelin you'll be powered up before the race but once around the first mark and you head off wind you'll be underpowered plus once 100+people are upwind of you they seem to take away a bit of wind as well.
Finish; It was Patrik's first Lancelin and he didn't know you had to hit the beach at full speed so Peter who has won it before just didn't slow down. Patrik then tackled Peter (not allowed) and thought you just had to touch the van but Peter knew you have to touch the hand of the finisher in the van to win.

Don't forget the old saying; "It's not over till you cross the finish line."

This is why you should never give up I guess.

Lastly; There is video of this - the ch9. camo was sitting behind me but missed the run up the beach.
