I have a nice carbon Trim fin that would be perfect for my new board with a Tuttle box. I can't really see using any of my trim fins again. It looks like I may be able to hack and grind on that fin to be able to get it to fit in that Tuttle box. To keep the fin flush with the bottom of the board. I would have to put a second barrel nut in the back and use a longer screw. Has anyone done this?

My other option would beto grind the root of the fin way down, and re-pot it in a tuttle box. If I did this, what kind of filler would I use? How would I prep the old root? etc....

Don't laugh too much!

Can you buy a 'select conversion base' and cut the root of the fin to suit that? I've done that to convert a powerbox fin to suit a tuttle box.

You don't need to re-pot it this way, and if you already have a select fin with one of these bases you can use this as a template.

I had to grind down the fin to suit, and drill a few holes, but otherwise it worked well.

The Select fin system is calle a Multi Conic base system. Pretty easy to convert any fin ober to another base type though it is made much easier if you have a select fin without the box in front of you so you can measure the width & hole locations. Good luck.

I like that idea, but I haven't been able to find that Select box, yet.

Another option would be to buy a Tuttle box from Chinook. I could be pretty sloppy about cutting material away from the old root, set it in the box, and fill in the gaps. What would I use to fill in the bigger spaces? What would I use to keep the fin and filler from sticking to the box after it is set?
