Mandurah the backwater which it is has been dragged kicking and screaming into the 1970's

Yes the Mandurah city council has discovered trafic lights!!!

They have also discovered a little known factthat they are actually cheaper to run than ordinary street lights.

So as a means of economising in these trying times they will be replacing all the street lights between the Bypass bridge and the Dawesville cut.

Within the next year we will have a grand total of 8 (yes ****ken eight) sets of trafic lights on that stretch of road.

It is conservatively estimated that at the end of a long weekend thge trafic jam will no longer start at Falcon but at lake clifton approx 30kms south.

So guys within the next year, if you want to come sail down at Avi, it will most likely be quicker going via the sth west highway then coming back through Bunbury.

Yet to mention that the speed limit will most likely drop to 70kmh as well.

Bugga

That's my whinge for now

From backwater to sprawling suburbia.

Welcome to Progress, Elmo.
The fastest growing regional city in the whole of Australia.

HELLO, is anyone home....cause I've had numerous solo sessions in waves lately.
Not complaining, just puzzled sometimes???

This saturday may be a different matter though.
Weekend coldfront, the swell is holding, spring has sprung.
Lucky the footy is on, that should cut the numbers.

I understand it is the second fastest growing city in the World.

And don't forget the speed cameras.

I had a few surfs down that way latley with very few crew in the water.

On the subject of progress....

A 15 storey tower will be built immediately south and adjacent to the Dawesville Channel.
This tower will be part of a cluster of highrises planned as a tourist hotel resort.

The City of Mandurah is currently inviting public submissions.

I'm hoping the hotel won't affect the wind to the Kite Beach(estuary)
or to the Point.
(I've checked the map and lined-up the breeze, it looks A.OK).

maybe you could park at Yunderup in the morning and sail across to the cut with the Easterly,
then
have lunch at the jolly frog or the golf course,
sail at avi, then sail back across the estuary to your car with the waning sea breeze.

just a thought

Do you remember Elmo when the by-pass was way out of town? Then they introduced that new fandagled thing called a shopping centre with a K-mart, but it was so far out of town. The local shops in town had to then start opening on wednesday afternoon instead of being able to have a mid-week siesta or better yet, go for a surf or sail.

I remember when the "new bridge" opened (no not the dawesville one)and we had a sailboard race down the estuary and back.
Back in the day when the waves were ridden on bombora trifins, darryl wilkes blasters, santoshas and storm 8's, and a winter crowd at doddi's beach halls head was around 25 guys.

Talk about the 70's, I just remembered the fair ground when it was where the cinemas are now.

cinemas in mandurah... it really must be a city now... I wish they would hurry up and build that mandurah by-pass at the end of the freeway... but I am guessing that wont happen until the finish that bloody train line
