I am seeing similar ads locally for kiting gear. Gear that is so old that no one should use it but being sold as 'new' or 'almost new'. Sometimes I feel like replying to their ad telling them that they shouldn't bother selling it, but I am sure those people won't take that well.

In both cases its a shame if someone new to these sports buys it thinking it is current gear. I used to work with someone that windsurfed in the 80s and couldn't get it into his head that gear had changed so much by the 2000s. He insisted on using old boards and masts and couldn't accept that new masts and sails actually bend.

a lot of the guys at my local are sailing older gear. especially older boards.. something about ezzy sailors lol.
'the gear above would still work. I;m not gonna use it but hey I still have my 90's speed board in the shed. Let's acknowledge mint awesome gear from years ago..

older longer boards with modifications are at my local. they are all having fun fwiw.. glassing up centreboards, cutting off bits. and running them with delta fins.. it's complete opposite to what I'm on..

I'll grab a photo next session but one guy turned up with an absolute mint 90's board he grabbed for $20 at the local recycle world. and that's where they are shopping for gear. when I rock up to the beach with an $1800 sail I'll be honest I wonder..

Yeah agree. Nothing wrong with it. If you're skint, then it gets you on the water.

^^ This is before my time. What was the purpose of having two rear foot straps ?

Forward strap for going upwind. Some people found bottom turns hard in rear strap.

That makes sense. On slalom or freeride boards, I sometimes take my rear foot out and place it forward next to the strap to get that bit better pointing angle.

Was also for light wind (front strap) and strong wind (rear strap).

On slalom boards they had 2 sets of front and 2 rear so you could course race. Front set for upwind, rear set for reaches

My first funboard, UFO , had two rows of front straps and three in a row at the back. It was sooo heavy and draggy that you needed the far rear one in heavy wind. My arms feel sore just thinking about it.
