Hey Bazz Ive sailed with u at
St Helens b4 i will be down there soon in early Nov so will prob catch up.

Erin Between the few of us up here we would have some gear u can try on first before you make any decisions about buying. You really dont want to spend lots of money on beginners gear especially if you have a sailing background, as you will grow out of it pretty quickly and is is not easy to sell secondhand gear down here in tas. will send you pm with some details.

Cheers

Jimmy

Hey Erin,
Tassie is an awesome place to windsurf. I used to live in Launceston and there are heaps of places to sail. Trevallen Dam for learning, then Deviot, Rosevears or Paper Beach. If you've got a bit longer then head to Low head and sail in the river for flat water (plus awesome jumping in the channel) or round the corner at East Beach or down at Bell Bouys for some waves. Once you progress then Marrawah is a mecca for wavesailing - truly world class. the south of the state has heaps to offer too. I'm heading down there this weekend for a mates 30th and will probably be sailing at Dorans Road or else one of the Ocean Beaches down South Arm (forecast looks sick for Saturday!!!). can also sail in the Derwant or some good flatwater sailing at Midway Point. If you get down the East Coast then you've got to sail Coles Bay which has great wind and awesome scenary. Also Shelleys Point for waves. I'll tell my mates who still live in Tassie and windsurf to keep an eye out for you. Welcome to windsurfing - it is an addiction that will have you forever! See you on the water in Tassie some time!

Yeah, looks like some west / sou westerlies for Sat. Might see ya down Dorans, I'll be the one looking watching. Have a leg wound that can't get wet, but maybe plenty of gladwrap wrapped around it might work. hmmm.

hey easty saw the gash on your leg i have mine on back part when a rebar went thru..my uncle who was a doc did it the old fashioned way had cleaned with Betadine then get packed sugar the diner's use since it's a lot cleaner and pour on wound and wrap with kitchen plastic wrap and tape both sides..never could figure out since he would'nt tell me but lo and behold everyday becomes better only to be told that sugar when warm turns into alcohol and disinfects the wound to heal and shut faster...just a thought for you of and of course with the antibiotics too...btw don't force an open wound on salty water even when wrapped, did that already and ended up in the hospital for 3nites strapped to intravenous antibiotics in the strongest form got a fever of 43degrees farenheit...

Bugger. What if it's wrapped 100% waterproof? I can wrap in gladwrap (stick food wrap) and tape plastic bag over it, and then have a shower and the bandages are totally dry. Surely this would be ok? Any Docs out there. Or opinions from armchair Docs.

Yeah, pretty chilly to rigor mortis at a body temperature of 43 degrees Fahrenheit (24°C). For a fever of 43°C, I think you are lucky:

At 41°C, brain death begins, and at 45°C death is nearly certain

OR

…high temperatures that would lead to death above 43°C

Hey Easty, sucks about your leg. Yeah might see you down there though. I'll be sailing a yellow NP Combat and will have a helmet cam on at some stage. Fingers crossed for some sick conditions!

easty don't chance it my homie blokie..i't will set you back an armchair windsurfer for weeks on end...i have been told saltwater has much more bacteria than any other and even if it was waterproof a simple wipeout or tear and that's bye bye...pugwash yep 43 on the thermometer and i had to buy another one just to be sure..i felt i was floating on air and seeing doubles once in awhile..my uncle doc got mad at the emergency room for the interns to give local antibiotics and didn't take high fever to account. another sheila doc told me his outburst was he was afraid of strepsis(correct me if wrong:blood poisoning)....so easty don't go the nasty way....

Yep girlie, your hooked Your life will never be the same Not that you will want it any other way, mind.
Welcome to the "also hooked" mob of looking out the window or constantly checking instead of working, the breeze strength and direction, organising holidays around windsurfing spotsand generally running social life around same.

My old man just got himself a 155 litre go (84cm wide).. I thought: pah.. learners board.. until I took it for a ride, and chucked it into a carve jibe. Turned like it was on rails, and I had no sensation of the rail coming unstuck like I normally do on my freestyle board.

Heaps of fun, and it didn't give anything away to a guy learning on a freeride board in the same conditions (he had another metre of sail up too!).

Nice because you can get it really wrong, and stand pretty much anywhere before it bites you, and even then, it's got that soft EVA deck, so it can't really bite!

Take the man up on his offer quick!

Point taken Frant, have changed my advert regarding old boards and beginners. However, I was able to learn to sail on my old Bic .............
PS The Go in SA sold really quickly, they are hard to find second hand.

Hi My name is Mark from Launceston, if you are looking for gear go to Planet Surf in Charles street, Allan is the shop owner and he is a keen sailer, I buy my gear from him. As far as places go, Rosevears is good for flat water sailing (iwent today and had a ball). Another place is Trevallyn dam good for beginners. There are not many sailers in Launceston. I think Allan does some teaching as well

Good Luck

See you on the water

Mark
