Hi,

Just returned to windsurfing after a break of over a 10 years so I'm out of whack with the modern equipment. I've picked up an 08 Naish redline 7.8 and I'm having issues with cams jumping off the mast. Do i need more down haul? And to top it off when i was rigging today i broke the mast at the base, Doh! (Mast was new by the way) Two vertical cracks running from the base up about a foot. I'm running, i mean was running a SDM Naish 460 35% carbon mast with an extension.

Any help or tips would be great.

I have the 6.0 of that model and experienced the same problem either during rigging or following the first gybe. The solution for me was +2cm extension and slightly over-down-hauling prior to putting the cams on. Most of the tuning is then done via the outhaul, with just a little +/- 1cm on the downhaul. It took a few tries to find the right amount, but since then it's been nice to sail.

whilst rigging, a bit of downhaul, then pop the cams on,then a lot more downhaul so they dont pop off. If you lessen the downhaul to try and get more power, the cams do pop off. ( I had a 7m redline)..

Yeah I found that too. I think I've just been worried about over doing it with the downhaul and damaging something, and now with the mast breaking I'm not sure what to do. Sounds like I was on the right with more downhaul so I'm hoping that the mast was faulty otherwise I'll be nervous every time i crank it on.

Buy the way it's actually an 09 model, my mistake. I've also notice those downhaul winch/winders advertised, are they necessary for modern sales or is it still possible to get enough downhaul the old fashion way by hand?
