Hi,
I have almost 10 years abstinence from windsurfing but since moving from Germany to Melbourne last July I found out that I am still addicted and so I need to buy some surfgear.

I am 34years old, approx. 85kg, I can (as long as I haven't forgotten everythong) do beach- and waterstart as well as some jibes. My last Surfboard was a F2 Sunset Slalom (273cm, 105l), Sail range 4.5 -6.5, Race Slalom. When looking at the stuff today, I think I would fit into the freerider group.

Is there an australian Windsurf magazine in order to get more information about gear? I just found 2 UK magazines the other day. Would also be nice to have adverts from surfshops to compare prices. Are there huge differences in pricing across australia or are they almost the same. Wouldn't mind buying at a local dealer but wouldn't also mind saving a few dollars given that I need everything (board, rigg, harness...)

I looked at the Starboard Futura, not sure about the size but that might fit to my needs in general, I guess. Any alternatives, but not older than 2006?
Haven`t got a clue about sails. What type of sails should I have a closer look at?

I know, a lot of questions, I appreciate every hint and help.

Thanks, Christian

Not to discount any individual from selling their gear on Seabreeze.

When I started sailing again after a long absence, I found one thing that had changed since I was last windsurfing - that shops now have demo boards/gear and are willing to let you take them out for a sail. Obviously this is with the idea that you will purchase one of their boards, but you can't go wrong. Go have a play on the gear and see if you like it.

Also you will be impressed with the new gear, boards and sails have progressed greatly.

Hi gascha,

there are no Australian windsurfing magazines published today. The best equivalent is the e-zine

http://www.ozwindsurf.com.au/

or this site.

One thing to note is your terminology. Don't use the term surf when talking about windsurfing. Surfing is a different sport in Australia.

You will find the new style boards pretty easy to use. These wide style, shorter boards get going quick but perhaps their top end is limited and they are a bit bouncier in larger sizes. However I believe overall the new boards are better.

Yeah you should get your stuff off a local dealer, especially if you are buying new.

hiya Gascha.

Just out of courtesy we would kindly like to ask you to refrain from wearing men's speedos and mens hotpants at any Australian beaches, and when associating with other windsurfers - i thought i'd just mention that because many Germans seem to have a fetish for them

welcome to Australia!

Thanks for the advice! I prefer wearing a wetsuit when windsurfing. If only my flatulences weren't that bad....

Not that you're discounting us, but I sell a lot of stuff on seabreeze and if someone really wanted to try before they buy then i'd be cool with that. I'd rather someone buy stuff they like rather than b*tch about the sails i use or that i miss sold something. Obviously i'd have a you break you buy policy
