Just wondering what everyone thinks about seeing 2009 sails and prototypes everywhere on the net.. By the the time you are actually able to buy a brand new sail (coming on the market), you've seen it as prototypes for 6 months already and after you buy it you start to see the next years protos... I havent bought any new sails for a while but that would frustrate me big time!!, don't remember that kind of thing happening a few years ago either...

it doesn't bother me so much,

i still buy new sails from the previous season......cause they are discounted.

to me nothin beats opening a new sail and watching the foam wrap start to blow away. you get the same feeling with 07,06,05 etc. long as they are new.

the reason you see the proto stuff is because the sails need to be built, and tested and rebuilt and tested. that's the only way the manufacturers can check the shape and make sure the battens rotate etc.

they need a year to do this. basically their test team are constantly making adjustments and the adjustments not ready in time for the release get pushed to next years model.

Why would it bother you? We all know that sails don't really change much each year Are you buying them for performance or something else?

Every year, manufacturers of boards and sails say 'we got it wrong, this year's sail/board is much much better than last years'. Do they really change much?

I want to buy a 2008 Ezzy Infinity to see if they have made any changes at all since the 2007 ones. I'm guessing the colour scheme is the only thing I will notice, despite them having 'even more outhaul adjustment'.

I think you just get to a point where your older kit needs replacing and who can wait another year for that?

Yes I have no problem with performence, i urrently use 2002 and 2006 model sails, one maui sails and one naish boxer, ompletely different sails, but both perform really well, i just have to adjust harness lines.
I just though it would be nice to have a brand new sail that is not outdated that fast

They have to test a lot of prototypes, unfortunately this testing takes time.

Hence you see pictures of them posted.

My sails all come from the second hand racks so I have to go through all the back issues of the mag's to find out about them
