I'm near Geelong at mo and wondering what is the best flat water sailing location in Vic for an easterly breeze which the forecast is showing for almost the next week Understand that Point Henry works best in a Northely or Westerly cheers

sandy point is great in easterlys if you don,t mind the drive. Mentone in Melbourne isn,t too bad for a bit of b/j Haven,t tried Williamstown area but an Easterly would be on shore there.Hope this helps

Hi Haggar , I,ve never sailed there , but as you are near Geelong I reckon Portarlington / Indented Head should work in a Easterly ?may not be that flat though . Regards Martin

Thanks guys, I'll try around the Geelong area today providing the wind makes appearance soon . Vando, I'll try Cameron, I did not realise that SP worked in an easterly, I was looking for a W or SW(yes I was pinned down on chrissy day ), which bank do you sail near for an easterly ? I am going down SP way late next week and could go down earlier, cheers

Haggar, just be aware that easterly is a pretty weird direction for this neck of the woods. From my experience it can be very variable, whereas southerlies and westerlies are much more reliable. That being said, I've had some great sailing on the rare easterly, but in the waves on the east coast (not far from Sandy in fact). Offshore easterlies (on the eastern side) in Port Phillip Bay tend to be crap- very patchy. Might get lucky on the Geelong side though.
