Waves at Pinnaroo point???
If you mean you want to start sailing in the ocean , bump and jump style , yes Pinnarro Point is good for that.
If you want to do some wave riding the offshore reefs provide some waves but it is not the safest place to sail if you are not experienced.
As for wind yes it is usually a bit windier than cottesloe

rigging area is nice, with even some grass area , toilets etc...
don't leave valuable items in your car as apparently they've been quite a few car broken into ... could be a rumor ..but I am just passing on the info.

enjoy!

sounds like a good place
is it shallow
do you sail in and out or across the coast
are there sandbars
is it like safetybay kind off set up
im in the same boat (or should i say windsurfer) as tozza
just getting into the bump and jump style of things

Come in and an hour later your knees will feel as though you are still sailing.

ie its very choppy and bumpy

I might give it a go :) My legs feel like they are still sailing after every sail!! its a great feeling, sometimes when i wake up in the morning too. Where would be good to start learning to wave sail then if Pinarroo doesnt have a wave??

Tozza,

How far are you prepared to travel to learn wavesailing?

Do you just wanna do Perth stuff within 30 mins drive, or are you prepared to drive more than an hour each time

I cant travel too much dont have a car have to borrow my parents so that limits me a bit ... Ive thaught about driving down to safety bay for the avo that wouldnt be so bad about 45 mins a bit more maybe

We do have small rolling swell in the middle of Warnboro sound, and every once in a while get a small breaking wave behind Penguin Island.
On Big Sunday, we actually had a good long board wave forming on the end of the sand bar.
But you are right Greenroom, no prpoer waves down here unfortunatly.

If it's Perth, then it's got to be Dutch Inn at Cottesloe,. 1 km south of Main beach at Cott.

Very reefy, but not that big a problem, the 2 biggest problems with Dutchies is Crowds when its good, and the wind is cross-on so your bottom turns can end up with the sail being rip out of your hands. Move your left hand closer to the mast when wave riding, and practice sailing clew first.

The break on the left of the groin is probably best left to the experienced guys till you get good enough, so you practice in the smaller stuff to the right of the groin, less likely to get in anyones way. Keep an eye on CDC wave to see if anything at Cott. Other opinions for our up and coming Tozza

what's your level Tozza?
never sailed at Dutchies yet?
you should try if never been there ( carefull with rocks but no big drama)
you've sailed somewhere else in the ocean apart from safety bay?

If you are planning to sail during winter ( which in some way is the best for waves) you could try crazy waves in South fremantle, It's a really cool spot to learn to muck around in the waves, good when big westernly wind and waves.. big sand bar, wind orientation is not great for wave riding but nice to do little jumps, ( it's soft sandy bottom and you could stand on the sand bar).. never been here during summer , it would probably need the swell to be massive to get a tiny wave.
Woudn't recommend Scarbs as there is lots of current and shorebreak style waves, so even though it look an easy place to sail it requires a bit of technic.

I suppose Lancelin is not bad , you could go on a small day a go progressively a bit further out on the waves.

If all that seems piece of cake to you then we could talk later about Class 2 waves spots.
Also don't forget to chat around when on spot as you might find some people willing to give you a lift next time to a good spot.
I will!!!

enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!

Ive only sailed down at Perlican Point and up at Kalbarri (dead flat there ... except when the cray boats come in :p) I can water start fine hop a bit and get enough gybes to decide to head out to the ocean. Mainly i want to go to the ocean so i can get more windsurfing now the wind is dying but wouldnt mind giving a bit of wavesailing a go ... not too big though coz i cant afford to buy new equipment :p

Might head down to Pinarroo point today and just try it down there should be more wind than the river.

Cool thanks,
Ill let you know when im a pro and ready to move on :p

Are there many sailors down Pinaroo Point way?

I was thinking Hepburn ave turn off then follow the coast around? Is that the best way to go?

hepburn is the best way there. As you drive along the coast road theres a big sign. I little further north (Ocean reef) theres a baby wave and its not as choppy.

I'm just trying to get into the wave, think of heading up to Lancelin.

Be careful Pinnaroo Pt has had almost a break in everyday this week, so dont leave any valuables in your car, there are always a few windsurfers down there
