A kiter at my work was quite distraught that there is a proposed move by the Gingin council to ban kiters from Lancelin beach. Apparently only granting them access to the beach from north point onwards. I'm just a little concerned that the right word in the right ear of these country councils could see anything banned - I think they've only stopped burning books in Gingin in the last 5yrs or so.. ;o)
There also seems to be a move in Gerro to ban kiters from Corros by lobbying the council. My point is, banning is NOT good, they could easily say "why stop at kiting".

The banning of kiting allover the state doesnt bother me (in fact i hate it when they try and teabag on the waves near me, maybe some education on their behalf will fix that).
I very much doubt they will get onboard a "banning" train. I think it has alot to do with kiters having up to 30m lines that really r quite dangerous and their launching and retrieving of their kites can be dangerous to bystanders.
Dunno bout u guys but i havent seen any windurfers being dragged down the beach lately.
It mostly comes down to a safety thing. If u drop ur windsurfing rig it stops, if u drop a kite its quite likely to fly off down the beach and injure ppl. If kiters wanna launch and retrieve kites they should do it in an isolated area away from the public then there will be no quams with the council. The onus falls on the kiters. if they launch out the front of the sea search and rescue building then they r just asking for a banning.
so pls ask all ur kiter friends to launch from the S.S.R. so they can keep the break clean of tbaggers in the future.

I doubt the gingin shire council will ban windsurfing coz lano is the home of the Ocean classic and brings in heaps of ppl to the town.

... or if they launch and retreive their kites in SAFE manner ...

sadly some kiters think this doesnt apply to them

not all kiters fly 30 meter lines 23 meters are quite good for freestyle don't teabag as much but still good for tricks.

Kites and Lines are dangerous when out of control and Kiters are too close to others who are not aware of the dangers. I windsurf and kite, so I can see both sides of the story and don't want to see either "Banned". Realistically, windsurfing won't be banned, but also, realistically, the way Kiting is going, it will be banned, if not entirely, from specific spots.

I reckon it is mostly due to the enormous numbers of new kiters appearing every day and a lot of them have only spent a couple of mornings at the beach in summer with the kids and a beach umbrella and not even seen a sea breeze. They then jump in with no ocean knowledge to try and control a powerful thing like a kite.

Cheers
