heh...

errrr if its the nose of your boards. i always see the euros taping foam to the nose of their boards..

what kind of damage are you doing?? the only time i have damaged a board with the boom is when i started and everyone gave me bad advice and i bought this big piece of **** board.. it was long wide and fat. i smashed the nose off crashing a jump.. some local made it. was told it would be a good buy. worst board i have ever ridden.. even worse than the 18 year old wind action i had.. this was on the goldy.

anyway what i think i was going to say is fat boards suck.. or something like that

My Dads making all the damage because he hasn't been sailing new gear for very long at all. Just came of his 25yo windsurfer with a triangular sail.

So his getting thrown around and catepulted a bit whilst in the harness and what not. His just starting to get into the straps a bit.

Its a big JP 158 freeride board so gets hit much easier than my wave board. But i usually use a boom bra anyway. Bash pads were recomended by someone aswell.

Bubs,

I got a large JP xcite last year, the square nose is just asking for damage, and, within the first 7 or 8 sessions had crushed the nose due to inexperience (and catapults), I got the board repaired and ordered a 'nose protector' for it (hard, but light fibreglass cover, hardly noticeable, they even match the paint job), now the only worry is smashing my mast on it if it happens again....The other option is a 'mast diverter', a small attachment that fits under your mast-base with a wheel at the front, but I reckon I'd be clipping my toes on it every time I tacked....

Bubs, with recent model short boards, you may find that your mast head does not touch the nose of your board. In that case it is the mast that will smash the nose of your board. I have a mast base protector which I turn upside down and place on the mast just below the boom. On at least one or two occasions I reckon it has saved my boards nose from certain disaster.

Regards,
Harrow.

To save your board from damage a mast base diverter is a good idea but not the only idea that will stop any damage. Boom bra is also good but be aware that with all the protection you can get it will take time until these stacks minimise as you improve so until then just be carefull.

Hey Walt, as posted elsewhere, trip was good from my wife's perspective (15th place) but a bummer for me missing out on a good NE on Sat arvo.

Yeah i think ill put on a boom bra with a mast base protector upside down underneith it, but my dad has ordered a diverter today and he will use that. So far i havn't damaged any boards so hopefully dad will get more confident soon enough and not damage to much more.

Cheers

A few ppl where complaining about those diverters putting extra leverage on the mast track, and it was possible to rip the mast track out of the board. I have never seen this happen, but its something to be weary of.

Other option is buy a pool noodle, cut it in half and tape it to the nose of the board... Looks unco, but then again so does a broken nose.

Watch those glue on nose protectors. They look fantastic and hide all of your previous dings.... however if you get a good bash to the nose while the protector is on the protector may stay in shape while the board underneath may have a huge crack. Great if you want all that extra water on-board/in-board, without even knowing it.

The other "joy" with deflectors is getting the mast over them when moving the board into the water-start position. If you try and swing the mast over the nose of the board the deflector can make it very tricky!

I was given some square wet suit off cuts and cut them to the shape of the front of my board, then got duck tape and wraped the whole lot as tight as I could on my F2 Powerglide 130 and it has worked a treat for 2 seasons But now has to be redone, it's cheeeep dude and who gives a fat rats arse when you are learning about how you look on the water, do it mate and you will be alllllllright

I liked the noodle idea previously mentioned as well.

Dad ended up buying a diverter. However!

Dad and i went out about two weeks ago. He took the board out, got catepulted and reckon it saved him. After about two runs he had another catepult and i couldn't believed it but the board was smashed again. We're going to repair it ourselves this time.

Dad took back the diverter and got a valchor to spend at the store so they were prity easy to get along with.

His got a few technique issues from sailing old gear which are all getting attended to every time we sail. Main problem is he struggles to get into the harness and then even more to get into the staps. As soon as he does he'll be set. We all love the board though.

I think his just goin to have to be more careful and deffently get into the harness asap.

Dead right Bubs,

Going hard without feet in the straps and hooked in is fun until untill ya flung, I know mate I freakin know!!!

Your old man is better off just sailing within himself for the moment and start feeling for the straps, he will be fine soon.

Good luck

You still looking for protection bubs? We found mast protectors good if put below boom on mast - as it falls, thats the area that normally hits the board on the nose. Else for cheap solution, buy a pool noodle, slice it across in half and stick round the front of board. Boom bra is good if board is long but most newer designs boards these days the boom head dont even touch the nose. We have a few old mast pads you can have for free. PM me if you want them mate. Happy sailing!

Padi

Do they clip to the mast or is it a velcro strap. If theres at least one clip will probably be interested. What have you got and how many?

Cheers
