Haircut, usually a gybe wouldnt be needed but if you was to do one on your run it will slow you, i note they are taking the best 250m runs so it should be a straight run.
If haircut is the person i think it is you taught me to gype! Thanks again....PM.

hi guys,

no need to be able to gybe in this event. just sail as fast as you can possibly sail. i agree that haircut will find it hard to sail 250m without completing a vulcan or forward loop so we may need to provide him with special encouragment.

MK7, i love my barge. and i got my new small fin especially for it. but i'll have a few boards there so we'll see how much i can embarrass myself on the days.

hi again everyone.

i'm glad to see the event has started to gain some momentum. we looked at a few different venues to hold the meet including the train, wello and Victoria Point, but at the end of the day Golden Beach seemd to have the goods, with both E-SE and NE runs as well as a friendly local council and an area where the competitiors can quickly and easily change sails, fins, or boards depending on conditions. the runs at caloundra are over 500m long but we decided to go for 250m so the serious speedsters amongst us have time to wind up before hitting the best part of the run.

don't forget however it is a gps event. so there is no official start or finish line. once the tracks are uploaded the pc software will work out the averages etc. the event will be held over 2 weekends to try and secure some decent wind and the runs will allow discards so that it evens up the field a bit. some sailors may be faster in lighter winds than strong winds so discards help give everyone a fair go.

KA sail and Caloundra Wind&Surf have both put up some excellent prizes for the event. They are both really keen to see a successful meet. What we are trying to organise is both a serious speed meet that caters for those that want to really light the run up and also a fun foray into speed sailing for those that just want to see how fast they sail. We are aiming to make this QLD's annual speed event.

we are still finalising details with the caloundra police and their radar gun. at miniumum we will set aside at least one day where sailors without a gps device can see how fast they sail. this is also meant to allow the more social sailors without gps devices the opportunity to join in.

The event is open to any age or skill level. everyone is welcome!!!
could all interested people please email through my seabreeze user name. helping to confirm numbers will allow us to provide an even better event for all involved.

cheers
justin B.

Hi Justin

Sounds like it is shaping up to be a great event. I'm glad your going to set aside a day for the social sailors without a GPS as this will include me unless I can get hold of one before the event!

Just out of interest is there going to be a ladies division? Does not worry me if there isnt. Would like to just beat my own pb.

Just curious if there are any other girls out there who are going to give it a go?

Hi Kelly
I might give it a go. My elder daughter (Joanna) is now 14 and a very keen windsurfer. She might also be interested. We might not be able to do the whole weekend though. We have one GPS that we fight over.
That would be 3 ladies! (as long as Joanna doesn't go faster than me, of course)

due to popular demand we will introduce a ladies division,

i've also recieved some emails about gps devices. if it is possible for people to get one then i highly recommend it. there are a few retailers around that sell them.

have a look at

johnny appleseed gps www.ja-gps.com.au/
youprice.com.au
and KA sails also have one they sell specifically for sailing which has all the whistles and bells.
also some of the local windsurf shops may sell them too.

most of the guys up here use the garmin foretrex 101 in a waterproof pouch fixed to their arm. A gps that can upload to a pc is needed. i am not sure of any places that hire them but i'll keep looking.

I understand not everyone will have a gps, but i highly recommend getting one. it will allow instant speed feedback and track every single run done. also, without doin the full sell they can also be used for other sports like cycling, running etc.

here is a link to the gps speedsurfing website with some more details. www.gps-speedsurfing.com/gps.asp?mnu=faq&smnu=gps&val=&uid=

also everyone should make sure their gps's are setup correctly to record at 2 sec intervals etc.

i'll also lend mine out when it's not in use.

make sure you read the race-entry fine print. I'm sure it said, "women must wear bikini tops and g-strings only"

Yup! It's in bloody good condition is Vando's pacemaker. Only ever used on Sundays by a little old lady and never been over 30kt.

OOPs. That's my one, which is also for sail and sale. 201 and A-pak & I'll even throw in an ash tray, I mean set of steak knives. $ negotiable but must go to a good home ie regular trips to the beach etc.
